April 17, 2019: Head On

posted in: Bears | 0

The Bears schedule was released on Wednesday. I look forward to the start of every Bears season, and I always think that “this could be the year”… but for this upcoming season, my excitement and optimism are 100% justified. Will the 100th season in Bears franchise history, and the 100th season of the NFL, culminate with our 2nd Super Bowl title?

It’s not going to be like last year. Nobody picked the Bears to do shit. The Bears snuck up on everybody, including the most optimistic of fans like me. Nobody predicted them to be that good. Well, the bear is out of the bag. There will be none of that this year. The Bears will be a lot of folks pick for the Super Bowl; they will be one of the teams talked about the most. The schedule will not make things easy either. The Bears will have to face some big time teams head on. There will be no doubt… we will definitely know what we’re dealing with here… if the Bears can navigate this schedule and get back into the postseason, watch out. How will they do it? I might as well turn this into my prediction blog. Let’s go game by game.

Week 1 vs Packers- Win

Week 2 at Broncos- Loss

Week 3 at Redskins- Win

Week 4 vs Vikings- Win

Week 5 vs Raiders- Win

Let’s stop here for a second. I have them going 4-1 heading into the bye week, with the only loss coming at the hands of the defensive genius from last year Vic Fangio. I hated to see him go, but am excited to see what Pagano can bring to the table. Still, he knows us too well. He’ll even know where to attack us with their below average offense. Getting 2 division wins at home will be key in this first part of the season. Division games are never easy. The game in London vs the Raiders should be a blowout and a perfect way to head into the bye.

Week 7 vs Saints- Loss

Week 8 vs Chargers- Loss

Week 9 at Eagles- Win

Week 10 vs Lions- Win

Week 11 at Rams- Win

Week 12 vs Giants- Win

Week 13 at Lions- Loss

Week 14 vs Cowboys- Win

Week 15 at Packers- Loss

Week 16 vs Chiefs- Win

Week 17 at Vikings- Win

That brings us to an 11-5 season. The key is within the division. A winning record is a must… even after splitting with the Packers and throwing a bone to the Lions on Thanksgiving, the Bears still pull out 4-2 in the division. 2 losses after the bye week will have some folks nervous, but a revenge win against the Eagles will get us back on track. The Chiefs matchup will be a Super Bowl preview; that will come down to a field goal, and whoever is kicking not named Parkey will win us the game. The win at Minnesota to end the season will get us the division and first round bye.

The record is actually 1 game worse than last year, but based on the schedule, is still very good. Getting into the postseason via division winner, plus earning a first round bye, will leave us 3 wins from glory. What do you think? Any predictions? How many days until week 1? Bear Down!
