Just returned from a successful road trip to Milwaukee to see the Bulls take out the Bucks. It’s been a run of 9 straight wins in the Bradley Center, which really feels like United Center North.
Ton of Bulls fans… This didn’t surprise me. We Chicago fans support our teams across the country, so I wouldn’t expect anything less about 90 minutes north. This was my first time seeing the Bulls other than here in Chicago, and out in LA when I lived out there. It was the start of a tradition of following the Bulls on the road.
We were surrounded by Bulls fans, including some drunk chick behind us. The usher kept telling her to sit down because she was blocking the view of those behind her; I get it, but I’m not sure how you can tell someone to sit down at a sporting event as they cheer their team on. I’ve never heard that in the UC that’s for sure. We sat next to a couple from the south side. They were all about the Bulls too. The guy got up and acted like the conductor of an symphony when the Bucks fans got upset about a few questionable calls. Finally, there were some more Bulls fans behind us, accompanied by a Bucks fan. This Bucks fan would have definitely heard something from me for saying “ACL” every time DRose had the ball; now, with my wife and 2 year old, I try to be just a little bit wiser.
Speaking of DRose, I was so happy that he played. Guy sprains an ankle, and people start talking crap again. It is understandable, considering he’s missed most of the last 3 years due to injury. Now he sustains an injury that happens on a nightly basis, and people are questioning his toughness. It’s a tough spot for sure, and if he didn’t play when we travelled up here to see him and the Bulls, I may have been a little more pissed. But think about it… he IS coming off 2 major knee injuries, so why try to push it in the first games of the season when he has a normal sprained ankle? Then again, the fact that he was out there, toughing it out with teammates was great; that’s really all we could ask for, and should shut up some people… for now.

Joakim had the flu and didn’t play; my wife was bummed. So it was up to Taj and Gasol down low, and boy did they dominate. We still gave up too many offensive rebounds, but overall, they were huge. Taj would be a starter on any other NBA team; we’re lucky to have him on ours. He’s a true warrior. Gasol is much taller then I remember. The last time I saw Gasol play was in LA, playing for the Lakers. That game, I was screaming at him, calling him “Streetwise” for his half grown beard; little different this time. I called him soft all those years, and I stand by that. However, he seems to be reinvigorated; playing like a man inspired here in Chicago. He’s going up strong, getting tough rebounds, and blocking shots. He’s everything Boozer wasn’t, and seems to have found that fire in his belly. With Noah, Taj, and Pau, I think we have a frontcourt that can hang with anybody.
First time seeing Dougie & Mirotic too. They really didn’t impress last night. Dougie was hardly out there, which is to be expected for a rookie from time to time. Mirotic didn’t play much either, but when he did, I thought he was going to fight. First incident, I was walking around the stadium with my son, but I was back for the second. Zaza Pachulia slapped the ball out of his hands after a whistle, and he was PISSED. I thought Mirotic was going to hit him; he walked up to him, and was yelling something in their native language I’m sure. I thought they were going to go to blows; like that fight in you Nikola.
The Bulls prevailed at the end of the night, and that made all us Bulls fans who made the trip happy. We did seem to get some home court calls in this one, but the Bucks aren’t that bad of a team. They’re young though; maybe in a couple years they may actually be a playoff team. The arena was pretty cool too; lots of cool bars, except there was nobody at them. We did see some Green Bay gear in the stadium, which got me thinking to Sunday night, and a certain must win situation in the state of Wisconsin for another one of our teams. Hopefully they can get the same outcome as the Bulls did on this night.
Finally, have to laugh about the Bucks motto: Fear the Deer. Heck, my son thought the mascot was a Moose; he was cool enough to high five my son who was decked out in his Bulls running suit and Jordans. My wife and I got to thinking of another motto that rhymes, and it didn’t take us long. Something that rhymes with Buck…. hmmmm… GO Bulls!!!
