The 2nd day game at Wrigley, brought the same result as the first one. More importantly, it brought the Cubs their first streak of the season, winning streak that is. A 5-1 win over the Angels on Friday in a game where I thought a lot more runs would be scored, brought the Cubs another game closer to 500, trying to erase the bad start that was.
Since starting 1-6, the Cubs have went 4-2 in their last 6 games. Not only are the results there, but the bullpen has been there too, and a few really good starts. Cole Hamels turned in his 2nd gem in a row, as he continued to have some of the best numbers ever for a pitcher at Wrigley. The first gem was in Wrigley too… Wrigley North that is… in salvaging a win against the Brewers in the crappy start that was. I think we can put that start behind us now, yes? OK, maybe still too early for that… maybe you still have concerns about this team, about the division. I don’t blame you; I have my concerns too. But I think we all know the Cubs were better than that start; I’m glad to finally start showing it.
Willson Contreras has been key so far this year. I remember that couple month period in 2017, when he was carrying us offensively. Yes, there were even whispers of MVP before he hurt himself running down the 1st base line in San Francisco. It’s only been 13 games, not even a tenth of the total games the Cubs will play this year, but Contreras looks to be back. You know what, I’m glad. Last offseason he had made some comments about being an elite catcher; something that upset Molina from the Cards. Why does he keep his panties in a bunch when it comes to comments coming from the Cubs? Just playing it up a bit… since it’s the Cubs… knowing most of the Cards fan base hates the Cubs. Whatever; that cheater is done, and no, he’s not a HOFer. But Willson didn’t play well last year. I love what I’m seeing thus far this year. Assuming the big boys Baez, Rizzo, and Bryant will be there, seeing Willson be that next guy up thus far, has been huge.

I would have love to put money on a prop bet related to that. Albert, one of the most famous Cubs killers of all time, just had to add to that reputation. He’ll need a lot more of that if the Angels are going to come back and win this series. No Trout for this weekend series kind of sucks. I’m sure many people got tickets for this series to see him, one of the few mega talents that lives up to that label. But considering the Cubs are still working their way back to 500, Trout missing the series isn’t such a bad thing after all.
It was a great way to start the weekend. That Friday day game win at Wrigley always is. Let’s not stop there. Let’s get the series. Let’s go for a sweep. Let’s keep stacking and flying those Ws. Go Cubs!
