I thought if the Cubs could win the series in Milwaukee, they would salvage what would be a horrible start to the season. Well, if it was the thought that counts, the Cubs would have pulled it out. Unfortunately, actions speak louder than thoughts; the Cubs are limping home at 2-7.
Back to Saturday for a second… nice performance by Hamels; we really needed that. Yet, when the bullpen came in, the new guys, I wasn’t comfortable with the 7-2 lead. Sure enough, Braun went deep to cut it to 7-5. Then the Cubs just said, there’s no fricking way we’re letting the bullpen blow this one. A 7 spot was just what the doctor ordered, because the Brewers would have passed us at 7. 14 runs was enough though… thankfully.
Sunday gave us an opportunity to win the series. With Kyle on the mound, I felt good. That lasted 2 whole batters when Yelich went deep. I’m really starting to hate that guy… he is locked in right now. The Brewers seem to have carried over their successful 2018 to the start of this year; don’t think it will last, at least not with their pitching. But get to the bullpen… the Cubs saw Hader slam the door in the last 3 innings. Another guy I can’t stand, but probably just because he’s really good and not playing for the Cubs. But the Milwaukee bullpen is banged up, and with their stellar starting pitching, this run won’t last.

Opening Day presented a chance to start anew… to wash 2018 away, and make this year count. The offense has been pretty good. Yeah, we’ve had a few duds, which kind of makes me think Boom or Bust offense, which isn’t really good either, but… they had some booms. In 162 games, you’re going to have to win games every which way. We’re still waiting for the pitching to win us one… from the 1st inning to the 9th inning. The offense has done enough for us to be at the very least above 500. But that’s not how this thing works. We need the pitching to step up and quickly.
Next up for the Cubbies… back to Wrigley. It’s pretty crazy if you think about it… all of this crap happening to start the season and we haven’t played 1 game at home. Maybe THIS is what we need to right the ship; maybe getting in front of the home crowd will soothe the soul. And yes, I support booing guys in general if they deserve it, but no, I don’t think today is the right time for that. Our guys are coming home after a tough start to the season; they need all the support they can get right now. Fast forward 2 months and we’re still playing like this; I’ll be out there booing the guys that deserve it. But that’s not going to happen… this team has the talent to make magic again. I’m ready to start seeing it. Welcome home boys. Go Cubs!!!
