March 23, 2019: Done and Done

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 0

Let this day represent the end of the 2018-2019 seasons for the Bulls and Blackhawks. It’s over. Done and done. Bring on the Cubs.

Was I really going to waste my time watching the Bulls when I could have watched some of the tourney? I would, normally. But seeing who the opponent was, I knew I would want no part of watching this game. First we checked in it was 22-10. Next time we were down by almost 30. It’s easiest to say I would have bet on this, I would have bet on that after the fact, but man, I would have put the farm on the Jazz to kick the crap out of the Bulls tonight. I didn’t, but they did. Sure, the Bulls season has been over for a long time. This was no official ending for them. This was just another in the long line of ass kickings that we were treated with seeing this year. I mean, the 2 games I went to they lost by a combined 60 points. Let’s be honest. It’s been another shitty season. Yes, we’ve seen flashes, yes we’re going to get another good draft pick, but come on: this season was worse than any of us thought going in right? More to come on that. We’ll have time to summarize the season. But the Bulls UC neighbors officially joined the list of the non-playoff participants earlier today when the Avalanche won.

Same with the Hawks though. Some may have buried them weeks ago; it was a long shot no doubt. And yes, they are still not mathematically eliminated, but I’m admitting it, finally. It was a nice run; it was fun while it lasted. But maybe all those efforts to salvage this season from the dumpster wore them out. They couldn’t keep this up. It was only a matter of time. Down the stretch there have been some tough losses; getting 1 point in the past 3 games…all of those Ls qualify. 2 at home too?!? If you want to point to reasons this season will be the 2nd year in a row with no playoffs, there are many. How about only 2 games over 500 at the UC this year? Not good.

It sucks to have both basketball and hockey season to end with no playoffs, again. Who cares what happens in the postseason now? Well, I’ll have my list of teams that I’ll hate against, but other than that, not interested. The tourney will keep me engaged for another couple weeks. My fantasy baseball draft is coming up; probably need to do a little research. And then there is the season that is about to begin; one in which I hope does not end the same. But as far as seriously tuning into to the Bulls and Blackhawks from here on out? Nah. I’ll watch. I’ll keep tabs. I can’t not do that. But I don’t need to be disappointed any longer with these guys. Not making the playoffs is simply unacceptable. That should never happen, especially here. Yes, that sounds unreasonable; I’ll give you that for baseball and football. But 16 teams making the playoffs each year in the NBA and NHL, and we can’t be one of those? Rebuild, reload, tank, whatever the reason, it’s BS. I hope this is the last year like this in a while. Come on boys…
