It’s the job that everybody should want. It’s the job that only one person in history has succeeded at. It’s the job that could make you a legend. It’s the job that Joe Maddon will officially be announced for today on November 3, 2014.
You can take all those statements in the above paragraph, and turn them around. Who would want to manage the franchise most associated with losing? Who would want to take this job only 1 man has ever succeeded at? Why would anyone want to be added to the list of failures in the Wrigley Field dugout? What kind of person are you?
Are you the person that wants to succeed at something that almost nobody else could? Are you the person who wants the spotlight? Can you handle pressure? Are you able to break curses? Do you want to be legendary? These are just a few of the interview questions that need to be answered YES for the Cubs managerial job.
It will NOT be easy. I don’t care how many prospects we have. I don’t care if they ALL turn into all-stars. I don’t care if we sign 3 FA starting pitchers. I don’t care if we go through 162 games as the best team. I don’t care if we win a playoff game. I don’t care if we get to the World Series. There is only one goal here, and that seems about as unachievable as anything in the sports world today. The goal that will define success or failure for Joe Maddon. The goal is to bring the Cubs a World Series title.
Many have failed. Only one has ever succeeded. Ever hear of a guy named Frank Chance? He’s responsible for both World Series titles back in 1907 & 1908. He’s the only Cubs manager to do it. Since then, we’ve had our share of bum managers; we’ve also had a few good ones. Jim Frey, Don Zimmer, Dusty Baker, and Lou Piniella can all be put in that good category. That good category that means absolutely crap at the end of the day. Yes, they all brought hope to Wrigley. They all led us to the playoffs. They all eventually failed.
How much of a team’s success or failure can you place on a manager? A lot; their jobs are usually decided by the team’s on-field performance. The same goes for the GMs. Yet, when it all comes down to it, it’s really the players that need to play. It’s the players that need to execute. It’s the players that need to NOT choke when it all is said and done. Unfair or not, at the end of the day, the managers are the ones that are looked at.
Usually doctors prescribe the medication of cialis low cost and its other variant known by the name of Tadalafil. It is available in blister packing of 10 online cialis pills/packet. Kamagra is levitra on line the most suitable and recommended treatment of ED or erectile dysfunction is the excess price at which it impacts the body. A penile cream that contains all of the above ingredients can aid viagra no doctor men with their erectile function, while at the same time helping to keep the skin safe from the toxins, pollutants and harsh chemicals in the body; some leads to a stiffer erection that happen and some make the flaccid (soft). Are you ready to be looked at Joe? The days of coaching in a city that doesn’t really care about their baseball are gone. The days of coaching in a half… quarter-full stadium are gone. Are you ready to handle the pressure?
I like Joe Maddon. I think he’s a very solid manager. I think he may be just weird enough to be the manager that does it for us too. You need to be a little off your rocker (in a good kind of way) to take this job…. to want this job. You have to be a little unconventional to be able to handle the pressure of 100+ years and a supposed curse when it comes to the postseason. You have to be able to be the mental manager of this team; keeping everybody sane when the Cubs play baseball in October. It will be crazy Joe; trust me.
He’s coming into a great situation; arguably, the best situation that any Cubs manager has walked into for a long time. The team is stockpiled with young talent, is ready to dig into their deep pockets, is primed for sustained success. Wait.. for sustained success to be true, you have to have one success. That’s all we want around here Joe. It’ll be great to be perennial playoff contenders one day, but it’s all about the one. Bring us the one, and you will be a God.
I can’t wait for 2015. I think this hiring is only the first of many off-season additions; this one may be the most important. Nothing against Ricky Renteria… I liked him, but as Theo said, when an opportunity like this comes along, you have to grab it. You have to be loyal to the Cubs as an organization and NOT an individual. That said, bye Starlin… ok, just kidding… kind of.
It’s about wins and losses at the end of the day. It’s about World Series titles; we have no idea what that is about. We’re ready though… trust me. We’re more ready than ANY fan base. Is Joe our man? Is he another Frank Chance? Will he be the 2nd to bring a World Series title to the Chicago Cubs? I say yes, but what did you think I’d say.
Welcome to Chicago Joe Maddon. All we’re asking of you is to bring us our 1st World Series title in 107 years. No pressure.

Great hire for the Cubs. Not a Cubs fan, but I hope this can bring some success to them, at least for my brother in laws mental well being!!!
This could be one of the missing pieces to the puzzle!!!

Piniella and Baker were recent good hires and Maddon could be too. Maddon choked on it with the Rays every time they got there. He’ll fit right in! Cubs baseball, where managers go to die.
Also, way to break MLB code and let it leak during the World Series. Always frowned upon by MLB. No big deal, Cubs don’t care, it’s all about them. Go teddy bears!
JEFFK
You sound like a jealous Sox fan…
JEFFK
Oh yeah, breaking news from Sox camp………. yep, nothing.
JEFFK
It’s going to be some tough years ahead for all the Cub haters out there… Don’t hate, appreciate. The Sox got theirs… it’s our turn now.
LD#19
Just stating the facts. Whats to be jealous of???? I’d love to know. Losing? I Pad and Smart phone service at the park? A park that smells like piss? Hot chicks cause the games not worth watching?
2005 World Champions!
JEFFK
Exactly right, so why the hate? I’d love to know.
Great moment for the Cubs downplayed by a sox fan/cub hater. I know… You’d much rather have robin Ventura managing your team than joe maddon. Good luck with that.
