March 6, 2019: The Exes

posted in: Bulls | 1

Finally… going to be doing a little catch up over the next couple days.  As always, even if I can’t get my daily blog in, I’m definitely still up on what’s going on.  I’m still most likely catching all the games, keeping up with my reading, etc.  So, that’s why I will go back in time, and update each and every day that has passed us by.  Let’s start with the Exes.

We’re going back to Wednesday night when the Bulls hosted the Sixers.  It was the return of Jimmy Butler to the UC… one of our many exes.  He’s got his new do, his new headband, and straight diva attitude down the stretch.  For a guy I loved so much, he sure has fallen out of favor.  I would never burn my son’s jersey of him, but I would sell it; not to that point yet… he still did great things when he was a Bull.  We saw him when he was just coming up… before his head blew up like a hot air balloon.  I was glad to see him go down… glad to see his frustration on the bench.  I really wanted to see him lose; it’s not like that with all of our exes.

Take Joakim Noah for example; still love that guy.  He’s the one recent ex that I would cheer for the most.  Taj is right there with him.  Mr. Hard Hat Lunch Pail guy will always have a place in my heart.  Heck, Luol Deng for that matter; I was disappointed when he didn’t play earlier this year.  I would have gave him a hand.  Another guy that I’m not really rooting for any more is Derrick Rose; I’m not really rooting against him either.  But with his up and down tenure… the best of the best times, and the worst of the worst times, I’ve had enough of DRose to last a lifetime.  I’m just done with him… I’m over it.  Still, I gave him a hand when he was announced earlier this year, but I’ll be damned if I was going to cheer for him every time he touched the ball.  We’ve been over this…

Of course the one ex I remember the most is MJ himself.  Yes, the Wizard days are pretty much non-existent in my head, preferring to remember him for everything he did in a Bulls uniform, including the last shot in Game 6 in 1998.  Still, I would have supported MJ in almost anything after all he gave to us.  I remember the day he came back to the UC.  I wasn’t at the game, but for some reason I remember being outside the stadium that day… driving by.  Not sure if this is one of these things that grows over the years, but I swear I remember the building shaking.  I recently watched that video of when he was announced here for the last time… chills man…  chills.

That’s really just the tip of the iceberg.  Plenty more ex-Bulls players… plenty more ex-Chicago players.  That sounds like it’s own separate feature, but for now, we must move on… more catching up to do.

Jimmy Buckets Butler was easy to root for as he grew up with the Bulls. He was a hard worker on both ends of the floor. He cared just as much about playing D and guarding the opposing team’s best player as he did for scoring. Now, my have times changed. The guy is the typical nba diva nowadays. Whining and complaining, not getting along with teammates, wanting to score and not play D…the list can go on. Glad that the Bulls were able to score a late bucket and take down Buckets and the 76ers.
MJ with the wiz does not exist…hahaha. He is and will always be a Chicago Bull after the 6 titles he brought here and countless memories. He did some good things with the wiz in his last years, but it would have been better to stay with the Bulls and finish his career where he started. I know a lot of things went into that not happening. Even still, MJ will always be revered, especially in Chicago…he is the GOAT!
