Just when I started feeling a little better… just when I was trying to move on… just when I was trying to turn that page, that 200lb page… pulling on it with 2 hands… trying to close the book of 2018 Chicago Bears’ emotions… nope… Looks like we’ll be staying open for recovery business a little longer. Vic Fangio is gone.
Why is that such a big deal? I mean, with the talent on that defense, you or I could coach it, right? Wrong. We’ve seen the impacts of this before. Let’s start with Buddy Ryan. Yeah, that 1986 defense was still the best in the league, and there were certainly other reasons why we didn’t return to the Super Bowl, but per many players on the Bears, Danimal and Otis for starters, it wasn’t the same. The defense remained solid the rest of the decade, but it never quite was the same. What about our other Super Bowl appearance? Chico was the DC, and then, he was gone. Supposedly him and Lovie didn’t quite see eye to eye. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the adjustments he wanted to make during the Super Bowl, but was told NO because Lovie wanted to let his buddy Tony win it all. Ok, let me not start any rumors. But yes, the defense was still good after that other Super Bowl appearance, but again, never quite the same. Let’s even take a look at Fangio; what happened to the 49ers after he left? Again, other factors, but there’s something to this right? Something about a strong DC leaving their team, and things never quite being the same. But, maybe that’s OK…
The positive person that I am, who is trying to break through here, might say that the defense could be better with the addition of a new defensive coordinator… someone like Todd Bowles for example, who was going to the Bucs, but may be altering his course to the Windy City. If not him, maybe another great defensive mind can come in here, and make us even better. After all, we’re not coming off a Super Bowl appearance; we hadn’t made it to the top yet… don’t remind me. But was it the defense’s fault? Nope. Sure, there are always ways to improve, but this defense was pretty, pretty damn good. Will this new guy find the ways to improve? Will this new guy get more out of the talent? Will the defense just be better by playing together another year?

So yeah, back in the dumps after hearing this. Just as the wound started to heal…rip that scab right off. Pass me some of that neosporin and tell me that Parkey has been released. We must respond to this blow with something good. And let’s hope the Saints kick the Eagles’ ass this weekend. This sucks!

Vic got that head coaching job…another kick in the shins for Bears fans. Nothing against Vic, he did a fantastic job while in Chicago. Thanks for giving us an amazing defense to watch this year! Good luck in denver. Yes, the talent remains on the defensive side of the ball, but the wizard behind the scheme is no longer there. Who will the Bears bring in to keep this unit together, continue the growth, and make them even better in the next few years? It is a huge decision for Pace and Nagy. Do not make a rush judgment unless certain about the new guy. Take your time, the next few years hinge on it. So another blow to the Bears…2 this week now. What’s next? A parkey release sure sounds good…waiting on that hate file to drop. Until then, some iggles, cowgirls, and colts losses will help speed up the recovery process. BEAR DOWN!!!
