January 4, 2019: Good Riddance

Let’s take a quick pause from the Bears.  The Bulls made some moves this week, and I actually watched the whole game tonight.  Let’s talk.

First off, good riddance to Justin Holiday (have I been spelling his name wrong all along; I thought it was Holliday) and Cameron Payne.  I can’t believe we waited this long.  I’ve been calling for a Holliday trade since last year, while I was hoping Payne never put on a Bulls uniform.  Now they’re both gone; about damn time.  At the last game I attended in person, every time Holiday missed a shot, I said “there goes his trade value”; he missed a lot of shots that game against the Timberwolves.  I can’t believe how much we got for him.  2 players plus 2 draft picks?!?!  Who cares who the players are; don’t care that both picks were in the 2nd round.  Best thing about it is that we’re making room for somebody else to play, and that guy tonight was Chandler Hutchison.  Definitely ready to see him play some more.

As for Payne, man, where do I start?  He could be the worst player in the history of the Bulls.  Brad Sellers always jumps to mind as a bad Bull.  Marquis Teague comes to mind.  I can’t believe this guy was drafted in the first round.  Wasn’t there a point after we traded for him that Garpax thought he may be the PG of the future here?  Or does that just sound like something they’d say?  Whoever replaces Payne on the bench will be an improvement.  And again, I’d like to see more of Shaq Harrison as that 3rd point guard anyways.

So the new starting lineup took the court on Friday night against the Pacers.  Lavine, Markkanen, Carter, Dunn, and Hutchison.  I like it.  Saw a cool tweet about them; they were born in 1994, 95, 96, 97 & 99.  That’s a young starting lineup.  And with that, will come mistakes.  But also they will gain experience playing in the league and playing together.  Hasn’t been many games Dunn, Lauri, and Lavine have been on the court at the same time, so let’s bring that on every night.  I look at that lineup, and it feels like the Bulls should be better.  Can’t believe they only have 10 wins on the year.

This game was awesome to watch.  Yes, they did lose it, but if they played like they did tonight, they’d win a lot more ball games.  I know some are all about the tank again, and the coming of Zion, but I’d like to see some growth here.  I’d like to see these young guys get better.  I’d like to see the Bulls start winning again.  Our record tells us where light years away from that, but at times, the eye test tells me different.  Maybe I need to get glasses…  But seriously, why can’t this team win more games?

Happy to see the Bulls shed some dead weight, and actually get something back for it too.  Next up Jabari.  Go Bulls!
