October 24, 2014: Bears Patriots Preview

posted in: Bears | 3

Whew… what a week.  It’s been brutal out there for the Bears, getting slammed everywhere and anywhere.  They deserve it… most of it.  Talk about a swing from one week to the next.  After the Atlanta game, the Bears are back.  After last week, break up the team!  This is how we are.  This is the life of a die hard fan.  Let’s all take a breath, and get ready for Sunday.

So I like what Papa Vegas is telling us.  He has the Patriots favored by 5.5 points.  That’s always a weird line, but when home field advantage is factored in, PV is saying the Pats are 2.5 points better than our Bears.  Really?  That’s it?  Listening to everything this week on sports radio and TV, the line should be 14.  I mean, the Pats are coming off 10 days rest, with Brady and Belicheck who have lost 1 game in October in Foxboro since 2003.  Yep, check it.  The Bears are coming off an embarrassing performance.  You know what happens a lot of times after a team gets embarrassed?  They come back blazing.  At least I see that happen with a lot of other teams.  That’s what the Bears did in Frisco after an embarrassing loss to the Bills.  That’s what the Bears did in Atlanta after blowing the game vs Carolina.  Can they do it again?

Cutler cutler cutler.  He cancelled his radio show this week.  He’s been called elite by our GM, and much improved by our coach, but has been ripped apart by everybody else.  For me, it’s the same story:  Bad decision making sometimes leading to bad turnovers.  In our 4 losses this year, Cutler has thrown all 7 of his picks.  In our 3 wins, 0 picks.  It’s really not that complex guys.  I know Trestman is an offensive genius, but we don’t need one here.  PROTECT THE BALL.  You know what helps that?  RUNNING THE FOOTBALL.  It’s not like we have Rashaan Salaam back there.  Get Forte the ball early and often.  Run the ball.  The Pats have a good defense against the pass, but are vulnerable against the run.  Take advantage of that!  We run the ball, the rest of the field opens up.  The play action pass becomes relevant.  That doesn’t really work when you run 2 times in a half.  This needs to be a big part of Sunday’s game plan.  It also serves another purpose… keeping Brady off the field, and giving our defense rest.  You don’t have to re-invent the wheel Trestman; keep it simple.

Our defense will be challenged by Brady who still got it.  I have bad memories of Brady and the Pats coming into Soldier Field and dismantling a good Bears D.  What will he do at home against a mediocre Bears D?  More than anything else, for the defense, it’s about want.  You remember how we flew around in the Georgia Dome?  You remember how we made Tannehill look last week?  Which is it guys?  We got to dig deep.  I know it’s Brady, but the weapons surrounding him are not that scary.  Don’t let Gronk be Greg Olsen and burn us.  The run D has been respectable; keep it up.  It would help to get a turnover or two.  It can be done.

Special Teams… why do I even bother?  They have contributed absolutely nothing in the return game.  Last week, the kickoff return to midfield was the longest of the year.  We might as well fair catch every punt too; at least Santonio can do that well.  Robbie may be asked to make some big FGs in this one.  I still trust him.  Just because he’s a kicker, he can’t speak up in the locker room?  I like Robbie.  He’s been one of the best kickers in Bears history, if not the best.  Yeah, all he does is kick the ball, but he does it well.

Final Score Prediction:  Patriots 27 Bears 23

I’m sticking to my preseason picks.  I’ve been wrong almost every week.  I really hope I’m wrong this week.  I hope this upside down season continues, at least for this week.

Ace in the Hole–>  Robbie Gould at least 3 FGs (if Bears win, he kicks GW FG)

Have to mix it up.  I’m hoping he kicks 5 FGs with the GW.

It’s time to shock us again Bears; this time a good type of shock.  Last week was such a downer; we need a pick me up.  We can’t go into the bye week 3-5.  You think this week was bad?  If that happens, it will be the longest 2 weeks of the season.  I don’t want that to happen.  I want the Bears to turn this thing around.  I want them to get their act together.  The season is slowing being wasted.  A win here gives us renewed hope.  It’s week to week around here; we need a good one.  BEAR DOWN!

This should be a statement game for the BEARS. They always beat who they are not supposed to and never show up for the games they should win. Like any other Bear fan, the season was started with so much hope, but I am beinging to see that Cutler is really not needed to win. Its a QBs dream out there. 2 of the tallest WRs who can run routes, a monster TE and an RB who I think, is the best in the NFL.

Maybe the BEARS should have spent more money on the defense and special teams. Maybe, Hester’s 5 Million a year, wasn’t so high. Look at most of the games we lost, had Hester ran back a TD or gave us better field position, maybe we would have won.

I hate knocking the term “Bear Down”, but its starting to sound like “hold on.” Hold on for Cutler, why? He is a tough QB, but we don’t need a tough QB, we need a smart one. We have won games with Grossman, Orton, and MIller and they had no where near the weapons Cutler did. Plus the O line has been pretty good so far, so has the play calling.

If the BEARS lose this game, I really think I would be done “bearing down” and will look for someone to get fired to shake things up. Sorry, but its the truth.

Bears 34-31…late td coupled with a last second gostkowski fg miss from distance!
Bmarsh backs up his postgame rant with a big game, 9 catches for 147 yards and 2tds, including the game winner! GO BEARS…BEAR DOWN!!!

Ace in the hole is Forte for this week. 90 yds on the ground and 7 rec for 80 yds. 2 TDs this week, one on the ground and one receiving.
Bears D will have an INT late in the game to preserve the victory!!!
