Blackhawks win?!?! I thought that would have been a title I used before, maybe during one of the previous Stanley Cup runs; I checked, and nope. To use it at this point of the year is almost wasting it, but… I thought it was important enough. Any Blackhawks win at this point is pleasantly surprising. Yes, that is where we’re at right now. The Blackhawks ended their 8 game losing streak against the Penguins on Wednesday night at the UC.
It couldn’t happen to a better team… the Penguins I mean. Trying to be like the Blackhawks and win 3 cups in this decade… bastards. Yes, they’re doing better than the Hawks this year; everybody is, with the exception of the Kings after the Hawks win. The Pens aren’t doing that great though; join us at the bottom Pittsburgh. We would love to have your company down here; as long as they don’t win another cup…
Yeah, the Blackhawks flipped the script for a change and actually scored first. I’ve been reading some crazy stuff about that. Over the last 11 games, the Blackhawks have trailed for 81.1% of the time; that’s just nuts. How much of that 18.9% of the time they were NOT trailing, were they actually winning? 41 seconds!!! I remember that, against Vegas. Yes, the Blackhawks led 41 seconds over the past 11 games before this one; they led over 27 minutes in this one. Just crazy stuff…

I sat down to watch the 3rd period, and my wife asked why… they’re just going to lose again. Unfortunately, I thought she was right. Fortunately, she was wrong this time. Leading 4-3 late, I just knew the Penguins would tie it. After a sliding Kane just missed the empty net, I was like “here we go”. But no, the Hawks found the empty net and took a 5-3 lead. Still, I didn’t feel completely out of the woods. Normally, I would have said it was in the bank, but not now; that’s how much times have changed. There was enough time for the Pens to pull within 1 goal and tie it. But no, not tonight. Another empty netter and I finally realized what was about to happen; the Blackhawks were going to win a game for the first time since November 24th; that was the awesome win in Florida. We were way overdue for this one…
Will this win finally get us going? Not sure… with Winnipeg, San Jose, Nashville in the next 3 games, that’s a lot to ask from this Hawks team. I didn’t realize that the 1000 games Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook have played together were the most ever by a defensive pairing… bravo boys. I know it’s hard to say this with the way they’re playing now, but their longevity together and those 3 Cups, should net them a statue together outside the UC one day. Heck, only 1 person has played in more total games than Seabrook; you may have heard of him… Stan Mikita. Seabs passed the other guy that has a statue out front with Stan, Bobby Hull, for 2nd on the list the other day. There’s something to be said for that… these guys can’t be great forever. Let’s appreciate them! And let’s start winning again; this feels good. Go Hawks!
