December 11, 2018: Same Script

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

Things just ain’t getting better.  They’re staying the same… the crappy same.  From one game to the next, it’s the same script with the Blackhawks.  They come out flat.  They fall behind, early and sometimes by multiple goals.  They fight back.  They come up short.  That’s 8 straight losses.  That’s 19 losses out of the last 22 games?!?!  What happened to our Blackhawks?

The Blackhawks 23 points is the worst in the NHL.  Think about that for a second; let that settle in.  2019 will mark the end of one of the best decades in Blackhawks history.  3 Cups, 8 playoff appearances, and now, to end the decade, worst team in the league?!?!  Guess I can’t complain; that’s what I keep telling myself.  And it’s true; we have been very fortunate to win 3 Cups this decade; that is quite an accomplishment.  I just can’t believe what I’m seeing now; I don’t think it’s truly sinking in.  I can’t believe the Blackhawks are this bad right now.

They are still showing some pride, fighting back in each game, but it’s just not enough.  We’re not good enough any more to turn it on and off at will.  We’re not good enough to dig a hole and come back on a consistent basis.  We need to be hustling every minute of every period, and then, maybe, we’ll win some games.  The league has caught up to and surpassed the Hawks.  It’s upsetting for sure.

You see some of the same guys out there.  They’re just not the same; most notably is the duo who played their 1000th game together, Keith and Seabrook.  They’re not close to the players they once were.  The defense has been atrocious.  The offense has not been consistent, neither has the goaltending.  I guess it all makes sense then.  If all 3 phases of the game are not clicking, and I’m not even talking about the horrible power play or sucky penalty kill, then that’s going to equal a lot of losses.  It has been a tough part of our schedule, but still…

It’s better than the whole Bulls thing, mainly due to the 3 banners the Hawks have brought us this decade.  Thinking of those, seeing those hanging at the UC, will hopefully help us get through this tough period.  Question is:  how long will this tough period be?  When you’re in the midst of an 8 game losing streak, the second one of the year, there is no light at the end of the tunnel… and that’s just this year.  What’s the plan for the next couple years?  I guess a high draft pick or two will eventually help…  As our championship core rides into the sunset, we will get younger.  I’d be surprised if some aren’t moved before then…

Watching the start of this season, I actually thought it was going to be a good year; I guess we were playing above our heads.  Then the firing of Coach Q… not sure if he was still here we’d be much better, but I know we couldn’t be worse; still miss Q.  What now?  Can’t put this on the new coach yet either… Is Bowman next to go?  After talking about the Bulls, and now the Blackhawks, I guess it’s safe to say one thing:  Thank God for the Bears!
