November 29, 2018: Down We Go

This isn’t fun.  After the Bears win on Thanksgiving, the Bulls and Blackhawks have been competing for who can do worse.  Yes, since that great Thanksgiving appetizer, the UC brethren have lost a combined 7 of their last 8 games.  Down, down we go…

The latest in this downward spiral was the Hawks losing to the Jets on Thursday night in Winnipeg.  At times it appeared as though we were going to get blown off the ice; Winnipeg held a 6-3 lead midway through the 3rd period.  Yet, the Hawks didn’t give up… they put 2 more goals up to cut the lead to 1, before bowing out again.  It was a valiant effort.  The Jets, even without our boy Dustin on the ice, had the talent advantage; unfortunately, I’m coming to the realization that this will be the case on most nights.  All those Blackhawk teams that skated circles around the opposition are a thing of the past; I think I’m finally admitting it…. yeah, took me a while.  Yet, that doesn’t mean we can’t do OK.  We just need to work harder.  Getting in those “dirty areas” doesn’t necessarily require all the skill in the world…  Shooting the puck on the power play isn’t reserved for all stars…  Winning the battle for the puck in the corners is partially about who wants it more…  The effort has been questioned the past 2 games vs the Knights and the Jets.  Once that starts getting tossed around, you can certainly expect more change, as we talked about last time…

The Bulls did their part the night before by losing to the Bucks.  It was a good game.  Remember the last time these two teams met the Bulls were blowing them out in the first half; then they got blown out in the 2nd half twice as bad to lose an ugly, ugly game.  Some may have thought that the Bulls would get blown off the court in this one… but they didn’t.  They stuck close to the Bucks, still playing without Lauri, Kris, and Bobby.  If Holliday makes that open three pointer, the Bulls would have won this game.  Speaking about Holliday… he’s had his moments shooting the trey, which could make him a player a team would want to add.  Let’s move him ASAP.  Don’t think his value will get higher than it is right now; I feel like I’ve read somebody saying the same thing.  I agree.  In fact, while we’re at it, anybody want Jabari?

As the snow rolls in, and the temperatures drop, it certainly looks like the Bears will have to carry us through.  It looks to be a long, cold winter at the United Center this year.  The Bulls will have some life breathed into them when the boys return from injury, but the Hawks… as they say, I think things will be getting worse before they get better.  Hoping I’m wrong.  But for our Bulls and Blackhawks this year, cherish every single win we get… because we won’t see many.  On to the Bears….
