Yes, riding the train to work on Tuesday morning, I got the call. It was my wife… I was like, what the hell does she want? Did I forget to put down the toilet seat or something? No, not this time. She told me that the Blackhawks had fired Coach Q… WTQ!!!!!!
Let’s just keep it simple and straight forward; it’s bullshit. Here’s a guy that has brought the franchise 3 Cups in the past 9 years; that’s 3 more Cups than we had seen the previous almost 50 years… Here’s a guy who has the 2nd most wins of all time in the NHL. Yeah, he was the problem here. Yep, change for the sake of change required the Blackhawks brass to sign off on sending him packing. Reallll smart boys…
We know Q was hard headed; that was his way. The players loved him. The management… not so much. But is what is happening with the Blackhawks right now his fault? It was his team, so he is a part of whatever is happening to the team, good or bad. So no, he is not without any blame. The coach gets the congrats when the team does well, and he gets the WTFs when the team does bad. How much does the coach play in either outcome?
The coach is the easy scapegoat. You can’t fire the whole team. Your general manager is not going to recommend firing himself; see GarPax… or see Scotty Bowman’s son in this case. You chop off the most visible head and “send a message”. What message though?
The message that we’re not going to take any more crap? So are we going to proceed to get rid of Seabs, Keith, and Toews? Are you going to package up Kane for a bunch of prospects? Is this the start of the total burn down and rebuild?

According to a report published by levitra prescription WHO, “of all coronary heart disease patients who die within 28 days of the onset of symptoms, about two-thirds die before reaching hospital.
Or is the message that we think this new guy, with 1 year of non-NHL coaching experience can do better than the coach with the 2nd most wins in NHL history? That by bringing him in, this will turn THIS team around?
Or are we trying to prevent Q from getting more wins to close in on the great father of Stan? OK, I know… that’s a bit much; I mean, he’s going to have a job in the next couple days if he wants one. Maybe he’ll even be in the Blackhawks division so we can watch his new team beat the crap out of us, and pay us back until he retires. Heck, whatever team he gets with he’ll rack up wins quicker than with this roster, right?
It’s amazing how things happen so quickly. The Blackhawks were off to a hot start; there was hope for this season. Then they went on their current 5 game losing streak, a streak that puts us behind the 8 ball a bit in a very tough division, even this early in the season. And now was the perfect time to fire Q? I guess there never is a perfect time to fire somebody, although firing folks on a Friday statistically shows less incidents per Office Space.
I don’t know… I’m just pissed. I have so much more to say. Maybe I should process this a bit more… read some stuff… listen to some press conferences… listen to Q’s reactions… his players… maybe that will all help me feel better. I mean, the season must go on with or without Q… and for the first time since early in the 2008 season, that’s precisely what the Hawks will do… Good luck to us all.

The Q firing does not make sense, at least not the timing of it. It just seems that Q deserved much better than getting the hook 15 games into this season. I mean, the guy helped bring 3 Cups to Chicago…in this decade! Yes, the Hawks did not make the playoffs last year, but let’s be real, was that Q’s fault all of a sudden? Maybe things and guys got too comfortable. If that was the case, Q should not have been brought back this season. He was, the Hawks started fast, have lost 5 in a row, and now it is time for Q to go? Come on, guys! Now a 33 year old is going to come in and run the show? Good luck, I sure hope he can. The Hawks brass talked about remodeling, not rebuilding, whatever that means! The brass, including Q, had been together for 10+ years. Maybe it is time for a change. Maybe Q is just the start. Maybe Bowman is next if the Hawks don’t make the playoffs this year. Just don’t like the move right now because Q deserved better with everything he has done for this franchise. Looking forward to hearing the players’ reactions, but I expect that they will keep it classy, just like Q will when he comments on it. This could be the beginning of the end for this Hawks team. I sure hope they have at least one more run in them, but it will have to be done with a 33 year old rookie instead of the man who helped bring the Hawks franchise 3 Cups. Make sense? GO HAWKS!!!

I’ve been saying that Q needed to go the past couple years. I’m not surprised that he’s gone, nor am I sorry that he’s gone. You’re right, he did bring those 3 cups home, but with the same coaching scheme game after game, year after year, you can see (if you watch), that the opposing teams have learned how to beat that game plan. I do agree that the timing was not ideal, that if it was gonna happen, it should have happened at the end of last season. That way, whoever they brought in would have the whole off-season to practice ‘his’ coaching style with the team.I liked Q, but if the only thing that changes is who’s on which line with who, the game plan still goes stale. New blood does not change the game plan. I’m not expecting this new guy to come in and run off 12 wins in a row. But I do expect to see a new game plan going forward, and that in itself will take a bit of time. And as far as Seabs and Keith, I’ll hold the door for them………
