OK. Let’s forget about the Dolphins game, that kick in the nuts. Let’s forget about the Pats game; we had all circled that as a loss before the season started anyways. It’s time to focus on the task at hand; the Jets come to Soldier Field on Sunday. It’s time to take care of business.
I don’t care how good you thought the Bears were going to be before the season started, to get to whatever win projection you had for them, you had to count this game as win, right? Now that we’ve seen what the Bears can do (and can’t do), this penciled in W should turn to permanent marker. I hate all that must win game stuff, but for the Bears, who hope to be in the thick of the NFC North all year, who hope to be vying for a playoff spot come another 6 weeks, who are coming off two tough losses, this game is very important.
Papa Vegas likes the Bears by a TD. Sure, why not. It’s assumed that the Bears defense will shut down the Jets offense; we assumed that in Miami too right? Not supposed to be 100 degrees in Chicago on Sunday, nor is Mack’s ankle 100%. The Jets rookie QB has been playing like a rookie, their WRs are falling like flies, there’s no reason why we can’t stifle them. On the flip side, the offense put up 31 points last week; if they were to do that again this week, I think we’ll have a different result. But let’s not forget about the 3rd phase of the game, the one that cost us last week. Yes, special teams has to get their heads out of their asses and not bungle this game up. If they do, I think we’ll be OK.
I traded Jordan Howard in my fantasy league. I need wins now, and can’t wait for him to get more involved in the offense. But seriously, why isn’t he more involved in the offense? I love Cohen don’t get me wrong, and Mitch has shown he can sling it at times, but learning to run the football some more will help this team. It will help the lineman get fired up with all that run blocking. It will help our time of possession, keeping our defense fresh. It will help create some more balance on the offense, allowing Nagy and Trubisky to more easily do their thing when they need to. What about setting up the play action pass? That opens things up if the defense actually believes you are going to hand off the ball. What about the screen pass game? Howard showed us how hard he worked in the offseason with catching the ball in the first couple games; give him some of those opportunities. Maybe this is the game we start to see some of this.

Final Score Predictor: Bears 31 Jets 13
Ace in the Hole: Jordan Howard 100 total yards, 2 TDs
Yes, I know, the minute I trade him away, he’s going to go off. That’s OK. He scored a TD last week on my bench. By the way, I included Evan Engram and got Robert Woods back in the deal; not too bad. But yes, I’d love to see him do well. I’d love to see the Bears have a little more balance. But more than anything, I’d love to see a win. Bear Down!

Another after the game comment here, but I definitely loved the Bears to bounce back in this one, especially coming off the 2 winnable games that they let slip away. I completely agree that the Bears need to get Howard more involved, especially in the passing game. When he is on the field, it is in shotgun formation 9 times out of 10. So it is either a hand off to him, or he is not in the play. That is how I would look at it as a defense. Get him involved…handoffs, screens, routes of the backfield. All of it will help long term. He is a proven beast. With Cohen with him or giving him blows, that is a great 1-2 combo. I liked the D playing better in this game, too. Glad the Bears sat Mack. Give him another week if he needs it. The Bears D needs a healthy Mack. Last to first after this weekend? Bets anyone? I’ll take it…hahaha. BEAR DOWN!!!
