October 21, 2018: The Mighty Patriots

posted in: Bears | 0

Another game vs the mighty Patriots, and another loss for the Bears.  Only 1 time since that day back in January of ’86 have we beat them.  I guess they have been paying us back for that 46-10 thrashing on the biggest stage ever since.  I guess I wouldn’t trade that for nothing… let’s just start there.

F the Patriots and their B&B cheating combo.  Yeah, they are great, and yes, they both should be in conversations for greatest ever at their respective positions, but you can’t forget about the cheating…  I can’t wait for them to both be gone, but first off, Brady.  Let’s see Belicheat win without him.  OK, back to Sunday’s game.

If you were to tell me that the Bears would score 31 points against the Patriots, I would have felt pretty good about that.  Our defense wouldn’t give up more than 31 points, right?  Right!  Actually, they didn’t.  It was 14 points given up by the special teams via a kickoff return and a blocked punt (blocked punt?!?!  Are you F-ing kidding me?!?) that eventually did us in.  That’s the truth.

We can talk about how the defense should have played better; they should have.  We can talk about why Mack wasn’t rushing the passer more than he was in coverage; he should have been rushing more.  We can talk about his ankle not being 100%; it wasn’t.  We can talk about Trubisky missing throws all day long; he was.  We can talk about the 2 INTs that weren’t 100% on him; they weren’t.  We can talk about the other 2 passes that should have been intercepted; those were stupid, stupid passes.  We can talk about all that, but the special teams cost us this game.

I recorded it, since I wasn’t 100% sitting in front of the TV for this one.  I was going to watch it, but… I saw most of it… more than enough of this nonsense; no need to relive it.  Unfortunately, this was probably our last shot at Brady, unless we meet in the Bowl again?  He has never lost to us… bastard.  He was good enough to win again in this one.  He wasn’t spectacular by any means.  Heck, there were even a couple fumbles that we caused/recovered that helped our cause, but Brady was still enough.  And Trubisky wasn’t…

Back to my original point:  scoring 31 points per game should net a whole lot of wins.  So, even though Mitch wasn’t at his sharpest (I heard that Belicheat’s defense can do that to QBs), it should have been good enough.  But it wasn’t, and at the end of the day, all that matters are the wins and losses in the standings.  Not shoulda, woulda, coulda… if you want to count those, we should be undefeated.

Good teams find ways to win games; bad teams find ways to lose them.  I’m not saying the Bears are a bad team, but they don’t have enough of the good team qualities yet.  Of course even good teams don’t win all their games…  The Bears will be fine.. I think.  Looking at the upcoming schedule, there are very winnable games.  I still do believe that this Bears team is going to make the playoffs.  Don’t think so?  That’s fine.

I thought this Bears team was going to be good BEFORE the season started.  We already went through the phase where we were getting zero respect.  We just went through the phase where we were getting too much love.  I think it’s somewhere in between… for now.  The Bears had their chance to prove that all this love we were getting was valid, but they didn’t.  Losses to Miami and New England brought us back down to earth.

This earth is not so bad.  Yes, we’re back in last place, but we’re sitting at 500.  At 3-3, most of the season is still ahead of us.  Plenty of time to write this season’s story.  Sucks to lose; looking forward to getting back on the field and beginning the rest of the season.  Bear Down!

Damn! It always seems to be something weird going on for the Bears to lose. I mean, a kickoff return and blocked punt for touchdowns? Come on! First, parkey can’t do his damn job and drill a field goal to beat the fins, and now the special teams is giving up points? Unacceptable! The Bears cannot continue to give games away. Yes, they could very easily be 6-0, but they are not. Sitting at 3-3 and now in last place in the nfc central, the Bears find themselves thinking of what could have been. But you know what, do not dwell on things too long. Yes, things could be better, but they could be worse, too. Being in every game so far with the chance to win is all we can ask for. The Bears are not quite there yet, but they seem close. MTru has been good, but he needs to be great. Jordan Howard needs to be involved more…grind more clock to keep the D fresher. The D needs to get back to putting pressure on the qb. The special teams needs an overhaul after the last 2 weeks of sucking. No time to rest, bring on the jets. Get that 4th W this week and never see .500 again! BEAR DOWN!!!
