If you would have told me that our team would have scored 14 points this Saturday, I would have felt pretty good about our chances at winning. After all, 14 points in one game?!?! That would be our highest point total in over a year. So yes, we did score 14 points, but no, it was not good enough. Another game, another loss, this time 22-14.
22 fricking points?!?! What the heck! That’s the most points I’ve seen scored by any team in any game in over a year. Seriously. Here I was, hoping we’d catch a break this week… like the best kid from the other team being out of town or something. But nooo… THIS is the luck that we get. Score our most points of the year, but give up the most points of the year… unreal.
This was the game to win too. Yeah, my son didn’t have the best game. He still tallied a team high 6 points, but missed a ton of shots. He was throwing them up there from all over the court. I told him where he needs to live… right by the basket…. all day long. Anyways, we got 4 buckets from 3 other kids this week; that’s awesome! 4 kids cracked the scoring column for us; this was another first. Yet, the winless streak continues…

I like the 9am start times. That gives my son and I a chance to get there as soon as the gym opens at 830am. We both shoot around for about 20 minutes by ourselves. I will shoot on the normal rim, while he pumps shots at the 8 foot rim. Yet, he’ll always come and try to make a shot on the 10 footer; he makes some of them, but I want him to practice on his rim. He also likes to try to shoot from further away; I tell him he needs to be closer. He’ll sometimes make the longer ones though; he made one of them in this game. This week our time by ourselves was cut short by about 5 minutes, because another kid showed up; yeah, that was the best kid on the other team. Damn, so much for him being out of town. He’s really good; he probably pumped in about 12-14 of those 22 points this week.
This week brought a challenge regarding “resting” each of the kids at least a quarter, specifically my kid. Every week, he plays the 1st quarter, then rests the 2nd quarter, then plays the rest of the game. I figure the 2nd quarter is the best time for him to get a breather; definitely want him on the court down the stretch. But this week, all of a sudden, that wasn’t OK. Here I am on the court with my son arguing with me about staying in the game… he eventually marched to the bench, but refused to sit; he stood the whole quarter. I’m glad he wants to play. I run into this with one of the other kids too, probably the 2nd best kid on the team. They want to be out there, I don’t blame them. But… everybody has to play.
Well, we have our bye week next week due to Halloween festivities at the park. We’ll return the following week for individual and team pictures, and another shot at winning our first game. I have some other ideas…

Sucks to put up your best points yet and still lose. That would be the game where the other team makes a ton of shots. Keep trucking along little tpups! That W is probably closer than you think.
