October 6, 2018: The Return of Last Year

After last week’s scoring outburst, I was feeling pretty good about my son’s basketball team.  12 points should win many games this year.  Yes, my son may have to carry the team in scoring, but we have enough kids who can make a basket where this should come together.  Well, that was last week.  This week was the return of last year.

We were winless last year.  I’m not sure if we cracked 6 points all year in a game.  There really was only one kid who could make baskets; my son and a couple others would hit one once in a great while.  It wasn’t pretty, but… it was fun, and that’s all that matters, right?  I have to tell my son that he can’t always win.  We can always want to win, but the reality is, we will lose some games too.  I recently gave him the whole Michael Jordan line… Michael Jordan, the best basketball player EVER, missed thousands of shots… thousands!  Yet, he made thousands too.  You’re not going to make every shot, or win every game; keep trying, keep practicing, and you’ll get better type speech.  He handled this week’s loss a lot better than last week’s.

It was 10-0 after a blink of the eye.  They came out hitting everything they threw up there.  It didn’t help that they probably had 20 offensive rebounds.  Rebounding is not the strength of our team.  One kid is really good; he’ll chase down the ball anywhere.  My son and a few others are good if it comes close to them, but if it’s more than a few feet away, they don’t run after it.  Then there are a couple others when the ball comes right at them, they turn away.  Hey, they’re 4, 5, and 6 year olds…  practice.

Henceforth, this one is the considered as the most selling drug to treat men’s ED issue. low cost cialis You can make use of this remedy twice generic cialis online buy at drugshop or thrice per day. Whenever we talk about erectile dysfunction all that we recall or all that which comes viagra sale canada to our mind is Gorilla pharmacy. They offer you medical treatments or clitoris-stimulating products that on line cialis will address your problem. But that’s the one area where we’re limited.  Where can you practice playing on an 8 foot rim?  We can’t get any other nights at the park for practice, so that’s out.  I’m looking into another local park to see if they have the rims that can be lowered.  Heck, even if they don’t, just getting them on the court may be a good idea; more to come on that.  For the time being, it’s one and done; after some practice shots before the game, all coaching is done on the fly during each game.  Not ideal, but we’ll get there… we’ll try to get there.

My son missed a bunch of shots in this one; thankfully I gave that MJ speech already.  He came out in the 2nd half, and scored 2 quick buckets, making the score 10-4.  I thought, maybe we had a chance…  But it wasn’t meant to be on this Saturday.  They scored 2 more, and we had zip; 14-4 was the final score.  0-2 to start the season.

Next week we’ll play the final team in our league; we’ll really have a gauge at that point how this season is going to be.  Rebounding, defense, and just taking a shot are the current challenges.  Kids make it in practice, but refuse to shoot it in the game; we’ve been there.  Teaching the kids aggressiveness is challenging; that’s what it takes to play defense and get rebounds.  But we’re here for it; we’ll give it our all.  Hopefully we can get our 1st win in 2 years next week.

You can’t score if you don’t shoot the ball. Tough to teach aggression. Kids either have it or not. Tough start to the year. At least you were not blanked in this one. Practice definitely helps in all areas. At this age, fun is definitely the key. Having fun while losing is not easy, but as long as there is improvement and games are close, a W should be around the corner. Get ready for the gatorade bath if that first W comes…hahaha! Go Tpups!
