September 11, 2018: Back to the Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

Since I’m still feeling a bit edgy about the Cubs, and feeling that maybe I haven’t let everything out about the Bears loss on Sunday night, I’m going back to the Bears game.  A couple days ago I posted a very positive message about the Bears performance and their future this season.  I still believe that, but… there are some things that pissed me the hell off about Sunday night; I need to let them out.

Let’s start with Aaron Rodgers.  I hate his ass, that’s no secret, so any talking about his greatness would piss me off, but do you think they were laying it on a bit thick on the SNF broadcast?  I listened to it for most of the 2nd half before finally muting it; I sat there and watched the rest of the game in silence, because I couldn’t take it any longer.  It was too much, period… way too much.

Al Michaels, God bless his soul, but to compare this performance to Willis Reed in the NBA Finals???  And then I saw something on Twitter comparing it to MJ’s flu game???  Are you F-ing kidding me?  This was game 1 of the NFL season, and you’re comparing that performance to the NBA finals?  Wow… I thought people were smarter than that, but man, I guess they were given their agenda, and they pushed it with all of their heart.

Now I’m not saying that Aaron Rodgers is not great.. he is.  And I’m not saying that he didn’t have a great game on Sunday night, because he did.  What I am saying is that it wasn’t of all time proportions.  That shit doesn’t happen in the regular season; put it in perspective boys.  If he did this in the playoffs, maybe we’d be having a different conversation.  IT WAS GAME 1 OF THE REGULAR SEASON!!!  And for that matter, how hurt was he really?  Throwing on one leg?  Really?  I saw plenty of throws that looked normal, of course, NBC focused on the ones that weren’t…. and stressed the hell out of those.  Sure, he was banged up, but hurt???  If he was that hurt, he wouldn’t have come back in the game… because IT WAS GAME 1 OF THE REGULAR SEASON!  His legs were already on the ground when our guy fell on top of him… it wasn’t as if he was planted or anything…  It was all a bit too much, reminding me of another Hollywood actor in another sport who praised him by the way… give me a break.

Finally, some commentary about the play calling.  Loved how the Bears came out, hated how they ended it.  THIS was the reason we lost, plus we weren’t tackling like we did in the first half (that’s an understatement), plus the Packers were holding us the whole 2nd half, but we were in Lambeau and we know how that works, and we know how hard they were pushing the Rodgers miracle comeback… Anyways, the 3rd and 1 calls.  The first one was earlier in the 2nd half, when we definitely should have handed off, but passed; fine.  But the one at the end of the game…  We run that ball 100% of the time, and you know what, we run it on 4th down if necessary.  So 2 chances to get 1 yard… Forget going up 6 and giving Rodgers or any great QB a chance to win; we go for the win right then and there!  But no… we line up 5 wide, with no RB in the back field, to make it really easy on the defense as to what we were doing; stupid, stupid, stupid… one of my biggest pet peeves.  If you want to pass, fine… at least give the threat of a run in that short yardage situation.  I love the fact that we may have an offense that is more up to date, but let’s not get too cute; we got too cute there.

OK, I feel a little better.  NOW, we can focus on the Seahawks on Monday Night.  Bear Down!
