I’m not sure I like the whole playoff odds thing that is shown in the MLB standings. I believe the Cubs will be in the playoffs and all, but 99.7% playoff odds right now? That feels like a sure thing.
With the win over the Nationals in the first game of that series, the Cubs hold a 4.5 lead over the Brewers for the division. They are 5 games up on the Cardinals. They are 7 games up over the Dodgers. Those are the three teams that would have to leap frog the Cubs for us not to make the playoffs. I guess looking at it that way, it makes a little more sense. It just feels like things are still too close to call with 22 games left.
It’s different out in the American League. The playoffs are basically set. The Red Sox are the clear cut number one seed. They will face the winner of the Wild Card game between the Yankees and Athletics. The other series will be the Astros and Indians. The only teams that have a remote chance of changing that are the Mariners, we knew that, and the Rays?!?! Yep. They only trail the Mariners by 2.5 games. Now they’d still have to make up an additional 5.5 games to catch the As, but still. Who knew they were the next team up.
The National League is a whole ‘nother story. The Cubs have the biggest lead at 4.5 games. The Braves have a 3 game lead. If we count both of them, there are still 3 other spots up for grabs. The Rockies are in first place by 1.5 games over the Dodgers and 2 games over the Dbacks. The runners up there, plus the Phillies in the East, are all chasing the Brewers and Cardinals for the wild card. 5 teams within 4.5 games for the 2 wild card slots. If this ended today, the Cubs would face the winner of the Brewers Cardinals wild card game, while the Braves would face the Rockies. I’d be ok with that.

As long as the Cubs win the division, we’ll take our chances against anybody, and like them. Not to be cocky, but the Cubs should be back in the NLCS again, with no reason not to be in the World Series again. The AL with more juggernauts can only have 1 spot in that final series. That would be the toughest matchup whoever it may be.
I’m just cracking up at the Orioles. 55.5 games out?!? Goodness gracious. Is that some type of record? What is the farthest a team has finished out of first place? The Blue Jays are 33.5 games out in the same division and not in last place. Can’t believe they’re both that bad.
Back to the Cubs, how about Bote again? With another big hit to hurt the Nationals. Almora, Taylor Davis were also involved in that 10th inning rally. Joe emptied the bench and they came through. Strasburg down, Scherzer to go. Go Cubs!

99.7% sure does seem like a lock. I have faith that the Cubs will be there, but it sure does seem a bit premature with so many games left. The al race is all but locked up. 3 division winners with the 2 wild card teams almost set. The nl race is still to be determined. I really do not care who else makes it, but I sure would love for the Cubs to win the division and not have to play the wild card play in game. Could be red turds vs brewcrew for a chance to play the Cubs…how about that for the nl central? Finish strong Cubbies! GO CUBS GO!!!
