It appeared for a minute that the Cubs would snatch another come from behind win. When Rizzo hit that 2 run homer in the 8th, I was feeling pretty good; that didn’t last long. Edwards couldn’t throw strikes, and the brewers tied it. Cishek couldn’t throw strikes and the brewers won it. They celebrated a walk off victory in front of all those Cubs fans.
Lot of angles in this one. The Cub fans outnumbered the Brewer fans; that’s no surprise. But Hamels being in his first ‘rivalry’ game with them, was surprised. When you’re playing a road rivalry game and it feels like home, something ain’t right. He’s right. I’m sure there are a lot of Brewer fans, but there are more Cub fans…a lot more, in general. Still, to have your home park invaded like that on the regular, it’s not a good look. Have to believe it’s the same type of outnumbering when you talk Bears Packers, yet I’ve never seen Lambeau invaded like that. It’s just more serious to us, this whole Cubs baseball thing. I can’t hate you because you pocket the dough for your tickets. Instead, I thank you.
How about that Kris Bryant play to end it? I was just thinking earlier in the game how the Cubs are so lucky to have guys with such a high baseball IQ. Baez, Rizzo, Bryant are in that group. With guys like Baez playing multiple positions in the infield (ok, there’s nobody like him in the league), and Bryant who can play infield and outfield effectively, the Cubs have a rare luxury. Superstar players who you can move around on defense. It’s cool. Just because KB made the wrong decision, doesn’t mean I think any less of his instincts. Just think about that process…

The mental preparation before the ball is out into play, IF it is put into play is critical. Then the ball is smacked your way and you make an unbelievable snare; what next? Since it was hit that hard, and Yelich isn’t that fast, turn two right? Problem was that snagging that ball took an extra second and Yelich was faster than you thought. What you thought was the right play turned out to be the wrong one. Lesson learned. I have no doubt that next time Bryant will make the right move…or maybe not. Bottom line is that I trust him on the field to make a decision; he’ll be right way more than he’s wrong.
After all, like Maddon said, that didn’t cost us the game. The inability to throw strikes did. This is what cost us last year; it reared its ugly head again. But, that’s been few and far between; let’s keep it that way. The bullpen has been awesome this year. I trust them too.
So what I’m saying is, chalk it up… keep it moving. Tough loss for sure, but we’ve been through worse. This Cubs team takes everything in stride, part of the value of having Maddon as coach. Win or lose, you put it behind you quickly, after all, there are 162 of these suckers. So congrats Brewers on the win; you’ll need a lot more where that came from though to get us nervous. See you Tuesday. Go Cubs!

What a game! I cannot stand it when guys do not throw strikes. I know they cannot just throw it down the middle, but these guys are professionals. 4 straight balls, 8 straight balls. I mean, come on guys. Let the defense do their job. The Cubs defense is a big part of this team. Guys that can and do make plays all the time, so let them do their jobs! Cannot fault KB for trying to turn it. What a play it would have been if he got him at first. It was a bang bang play that just did not work out this time. He will learn from it as will the rest of the Cubs. Keep traveling strong to Wrigley north. Hamels is dead on. No shaking on the Cubs side. Bring it! GO CUBS GO!!!
