August 25, 2018: To Play Or Not To Play

posted in: Bears | 0

I don’t give a crap about preseason football…I really don’t.  The most impactful thing that can come out of it, is a major injury.  The Bears took a hit last week with Floyd and Shaheen getting banged up.  So when Nagy announced Friday night that he wasn’t going to play most of the starters in the game where starters typically play the most, I should have had no problem with it, right?

To play or not to play, that is the question.  It’s a bold move no doubt; I’ll give it to him on that one.  He had to know this was going to cause a lot of discussion…Monday morning talk radio, both local and national, should be filled with this debate.  I have no doubt that there was a lot of thought and discussion around it.  As you could have guessed, I have some thoughts.

It’s a brand new offense…a brand new coach, a 2nd year QB who hasn’t played a full season yet.  Practice is not the same as a game, any way you cut it.  Even if it is preseason, you’re out there playing against another team.  There isn’t any better way to practice other than the real games themselves.   And as I tell my son, how do you get better at something… Practice!  I’m not of the Allen Iverson practice philosophy.  Nah, I’m more of the MJ thought process, where you practice like you play, so that when the real games come, the big moments, it’s like second nature.  You don’t have to think, you just do.  Are the Bears ready to just do it?

When a man gets sexually stimulated the brain nerves & steadily towards the penis turning the muscles in calm and the nerves in wide cialis generic pills form. At the same time, I don’t want to hear how well the Bears have been practicing.  We heard all about how great the Bears practiced under Trestman…I know Nagy is not Trestman…sorry, bad memories.  Have we seen enough to feel confident in week 1 against the hated cheese?  Does it really matter what we’ve seen?

I can’t get into preseason…never have.  The fact that the Bears have an extra useless game this year just magnifies it.  I think the NFL needs a plan here, like the NBA needs a plan with tanking.  What the Bears are doing here is only the start.  Having already seen two of our guys banged up sucks.  If these games don’t mean anything, what incentive is there to play your top guys?  The NFL won’t reduce it, because it’s still revenue.  What’s the happy medium?  Did I talk about this before?  Can’t recall, but an extra regular season game or two may be good.  Cancel the preseason, and add two more games that count.  But then there’s the stats and everything…this isn’t about that right now.

At the end of the day, I don’t think this decision is make or break on anything.  Is one game going to make a difference between the Bears being ready or not?  If you thought that, then the Bears ain’t ready.  I’m happy that no more main guys will get hurt, although you can’t be scared of that…that’s part of the game.  I’d hope that this will help Nagy and staff make those tough roster decisions.  Just don’t tell me week 1 if they lose that it was because of this.  And don’t tell me Nagy made the right decision if we win week 1.  Interested to see how this decision will impact preseasons going forward more than anything.  Let those big balls swing coach.  Bear Down!

I see both sides to this one. The preseason is a waste to me, especially playing 4 or 5 games. With as many workouts, ota’s, and training camps that there are, there should be no reason for that many preseason games. Play 2 preseason games and then the regular season. As for resting the starters, that has always been a preseason thing. There is nothing set in stone that the starters have to play so many minutes, if at all. Would it be beneficial in a new system, new coaches, 2nd year qb, sure it would be. There is nothing that simulates game action. But at the same time, what happens if that 2nd year qb goes down? Yes, practice is important. How else do you get any better? Will those 10-15 preseason game snaps make a difference? Will sitting them out and giving them no snaps make a difference? The answer is probably no to both. I agree that I do not want to hear how great the Bears practices have been unless that translates onto the field. It does not matter how great practices are if the Bears go out and get their asses kicked. Bottom line, no excuses. No great practices, sitting guys in the preseason, 5 preseason games, new coaches, new offense, 2nd year qb…the list can go on. At the end of the day, I want to hear nothing this year from Nagy but explanations on how the Bears win. The time for losing and rebuilding is over. MTru was drafted to get the job done…now is the time! The nfc central is stacked, but the Bears are capable of being at the top of that stack. It starts next Sunday night vs the cheese fudge. Put a 1 in the W column and all of this will mean nothing, as it should. Do it the other way and all the questions remain. Just win baby! BEAR DOWN!!!
