Here come the Hawks, the Mighty Blackhawks.
Tonight the Blackhawks season begins. Tonight we return to the ice for the first time in 4 months and 8 days. Tonight we start off the journey to finish some unfinished business. Tonight we take the ice as we begin our quest for our 3rd Stanley Cup in 6 years.
It doesn’t even seem like that long ago we were playing in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Look, the fact is, we should have never put ourselves in the 3-1 hole. We played great to get our way back in the series, and had the series decider in the Madhouse, but… when you push a series to the brink, when you push a series to get decided in one game… anything can happen, and anything DID happen. One deflected puck later, the Hawks were sent packing. That was then, this is now.
I think that was merely a bump in the road for this dynasty in the making. Out of the contending teams, the Blackhawks probably look the closest like the same team from last year. Is this a good thing? Most definitely. They did add Brad Richards, and they did dump Nick Leddy. They did add some young talent like Jeremy Morin and Trevor Van Riemsdyk. Our system is still loaded with the likes of Teuvo and new first round pick Nick Schmaltz. Yet it all boils back down to the core, which is one of the best, if not THE best, in hockey. Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, and Keith along with Saad, Shaw, Hammer, Seabrook, and Crawford give the Hawks an impressive top 10. These guys are back. Are they still hungry?

I would argue yes. Yes, most of them already have 2 cups to their credit, so maybe you can argue since they’ve already reached the pinnacle, twice, the same drive and desire will not be there. I would argue that this group wants to be great. I would argue this group wants to be a dynasty. I would argue that last year’s exit has fueled that desire even more. I would argue that we know what it takes to win it all, we have what it takes to win it all, and we just want to party like hell again. With an average age of just under 28 years old, this team is no longer one of the youngest in the NHL, but they are a team that is reaching their prime. I would argue the best is yet to come with this group.
They are still the cream of the crop when it comes to Chicago sports teams. With another horrible baseball season in the books, and an unpromising start to the football season, the Blackhawks bring some stability. We know they are going to be good. We know they will challenge for another Cup. I’d love to say that about the Bulls too, but they haven’t proven that just quite yet. So, it’s the Hawks who will carry Chicago again. Although we know we are good, and will challenge for the Cup, it won’t be easy… not by a long shot.
The Western Conference is loaded…again. The Kings, Blues, Sharks, Ducks, and Avalanche for starters are no joke. Most experts like either the Kings or the Hawks to win it again. I actually want to meet the Kings again in the Conference Finals. We got 2 cups, 1 through them, and they got 2 cups, 1 through us. It’s only appropriate to meet again, and decide this once and for all, with the winner advancing on to win the Cup. I want some revenge. I want to prove once and for all who is the better team, although we all know we that is. Give us one more crack at these asswipes…
That’s a long way away. 82 games plus some before we hit that point, and game 1 starts tonight. Let’s go out there every night and give them hell. Let’s go out and prove we’re the best team in hockey. Let’s go out and become a dynasty. Are you ready for some hockey?

Looking forward to another Blackhawks season filled with Stanley Cup expectations. This team has the talent and experience to make it happen…season starts tonight…GO HAWKS!
