Well this is a first…in the blog era that is. We have a guy who has a Hate File joining the team that I love. I’m talking about Daniel Murphy of course. The Cubs acquired him on Tuesday.
First off, it’s a little confusing the whole waiver thing. So nobody else claimed him? The Cubs were just the first in line? And then once we’re the team that grabs him, we work out a deal? Whatever it may be, I love the move. Yes, even though before this happened I hated him.
Flashback to 2015… this guy killed us. He helped end our season. I hated him for it. Here’s the proof:
But now, he’s on the Cubs, and all these feelings can be swept under the rug. It’s a lot easier sweeping feelings under the rug after 2016.

But then people have to start talking about some of his personal views that he expressed some years back. I just did a little diddy on that whole stuff you said or did in the past… Then folks want to bring up Chapman and his past before we acquired him in 2016. Here’s the bottom line: you don’t have to agree with anyone’s opinion and you don’t have to hate someone because of it. Yes, there are hateful things said and done…do I categorize his old comments and what’s been said since then as such? And yes, people deserve second chances, in most cases. Was Chapman’s case eligible for a second chance? At the end of the day, you may think someone is a scumbag…plenty of those out there in the world….not going to argue about that. These scumbags could be in your family, at your place of employment, eating at the same restaurant as you, shopping in the same store as you, or playing on a team that you love to root for. Are these guys scumbags? Do I think what Chapman did was right? Do I agree with Murphys opinions? Do I root for these guys any less?
At the end of the day, Theo and company are trying to put the best team on the field. I would like to believe that they want to build the team with high character guys; I think that does factor into the chemistry. I would like to believe that they factored this in to each of these decisions. I’m OK.
Adding Murphy makes a ton of sense, and makes me excited that our front office will do whatever they can to put us in the best possible position to win. He can flat out rake. He has the highest batting average of anyone in Wrigley Field with 100 ABs. He’s also performed his best on the big stage. Coming up short for the title in 2015, should only make him hungrier. I think this was an excellent acquisition.
We also found out that Yu was officially lost for the season. No surprise there. It is what it is. We’ll move on without him.
But we will have Murphy from here on out, and after another one run performance in a loss on Tuesday night in Detroit, it’s perfect timing. Go Cubs!

Welcome to Wrigley and the Chicago Cubs Mr. Murphy! HAHAHA. Never would have said that 3 years ago or at any point since then, until today. I hated the guy, too, and left a comment that proves it. He would not have been on my wish list for the Cubs, but I trust Theo. This guy can absolutely rake and is the best hitter at Wrigley all time…pretty damn impressive. The Cubs offense can certainly use a shot in the arm. Let’s hope Murphy will be that now and for the rest of the year. I would love to have 2015 playoffs Murphy for the next 2 months…can you say World Series #2??? I sure as hell can! GO CUBS GO!!!
