August 12, 2018: Better Call Bote

posted in: Cubs | 0

I’ve watched a lot of Cubs games this year; I don’t turn them off until the end most times.  But there are times, when I may switch to another program.  One of those times was Sunday Night Baseball vs the Washington Nationals.

We’ve been re-watching Better Call Saul in preparation for the debut of Season 4.  Love that show.  We started a bit too late; we only finished the first 2 seasons before the debut this past Monday.  I was on my golf trip, so I didn’t see it; my wife watched it.  The plan was, when I got back, we’d finish up season 3 before Monday, then we could watch both episodes 1 and 2 of season 4.

It was Sunday night, and we were 2 episodes from completing season 3.  Put my son to bed, and came downstairs.  The Cubs game was in the 7th inning I believe.  I told her we didn’t have to watch the end; we could start the episodes.  She said we could watch a bit… I said, OK.

We watched until the top of the 9th, when the Nationals put up 2 more runs.  She said, let’s start the show.  I said OK.  I did tell her though, just because the Cubs were down 3-0, doesn’t mean I don’t think they can’t come back.  But, we can go ahead and start.

We watched the Heyward walk off slam together on the couch.  My son and I were in attendance for the Rizzo walk off (Bote hit a pretty big HR in that game too).  This team is special, I know it.  30 something come back wins this year; you can never count them out.  But, we started watching…

Season 3 Episode 9 is really, really good.  But, I had to check on the game… I turned on my phone, and saw the Cubs had the bases loaded with 2 outs; David Bote was at the plate.  I told her, let’s switch back.  She said, if they’re doing well, just keep following on your phone; don’t mess up the mojo… and I’m the superstitious one…

When I look back at my phone, I see confetti flying on the screen…. WTF?!?!  Really?!?!  Then my phone rang; it was my brother.  As I was answering the phone, I flipped back to the game.  The Cubs were celebrating at home plate.  A walk off grand slam!!!!!  And I missed it….

All is well though.  Cubs won!  I’ve missed big wins before… but this one???  I was on the game… damn Better Call Saul… what about Better Call Bote!?!?!

Love that guy by the way.  Love the Cubs by the way.  I’m turning this event into a display of love for my wife… See, see… you wanted to start watching, so I said OK.  Who loves you?!?!

She won’t buy it… haha.  And really, it’s OK.  Just don’t try that shit in the playoffs…. haha.  Go Cubs!

Bote grand slam to end it! WOW, what a way to walk off. This is the 2nd time this year that the Cubs have walked off with a grand slam…pretty damn sWeet! Bote was the Cubs last hope, and he was down to his final strike. Then he got that low fastball and launched it to center…no doubter! Another Cubs W and another come from behind W. This Cubs team sure does have that special feeling to it. Bote has been a big part of it while filling in for KB. He is making a case to make that playoff roster once the Cubs get there. As for the Cubs, never quitting and having the come from behind confidence is great but works our nerves for sure. Getting and keeping a lead is fine, too…haha! GO CUBS GO!!!
