August 7, 2018: Easy Money

Did you see the over/under for the Bulls win total this year?  If you haven’t, what would you guess?  35 sounds about right to me.  Maybe you think more or less, but 27.5 wins???  That’s what Papa Vegas has us pegged with to start the season.  I read that it already moved to 28… I guess I’m not the only one thinking this is easy money.

27 was our win total last year… and what a horrific year that was.  Yeah, we got hot for a minute, ruining our top 3 draft pick, but overall, it was tank-a-pa-looza.  We had very little talent.  Yes, we’re only really adding 2 new draft picks, but we’ll have Lavine back healthy all year… that should be good for at least 2 wins, no?

Good God… if we can’t win 28 games this year… I can’t even imagine that.  I guess that’s why the win total scares me.  When something looks too good to be true, it usually isn’t.  My buddy is heading out to Vegas in a couple weeks… should I give him a hundo to bet on that?

There’s only been 7 times in the Bulls 51 year history where we didn’t reach the 28 win total; I thought that number would be lower.  One of them was in the strike shortened season of 98-99.  Those were some tough years.  Those years, after MJ and crew, were brutal to watch.  Of course my name jumped into the season ticket holder list that season, and yes, I bought them.  2 tickets in the 300 level…  Yep, 13 wins that season… 8 of them at home.  I couldn’t even tell you if I saw one of those wins.  We did go to a bunch of games… can’t even remember if we sold any of those tickets… not like anyone would want to go.  We probably gave some away.  That really was a forgettable experience.  I dropped the tickets the next year.

But back to this year… 28 wins?!?!  You’re going to tell me the Bulls can’t win 28 games this year?  As long as GarPax doesn’t press the big red TANK button, we should at the very least get over 30.  I was thinking closer to 500 honestly, but that’s just optimistic old me.  In the East, it’s the Celtics, Sixers, Raptors, and Bucks that are above the rest.  After that, it’s a cluster.  OK, I guess the Pacers too… But the Bulls aren’t that bad.

I was hoping this tank fest was for one season only.  Now, with some pieces in place, some nice draft picks, and extended, healthy Lavine, we could do something this year.  Playoffs should be the goal… not tanking to get another high draft pick.  Unless we come out of the gate with some horrific injury issues, I really don’t see 28 being a problem at all.

Somebody tell me I’m crazy.  I wonder if that win total has went up anymore… Anything under 30, and I should be pounding it.  Waiting for Illinois to legalize sports gambling…  Go Bulls!

Over/Under 28 wins? Wow! Is that how poorly the Bulls are thought of again this year? Pretty damn sad. I mean, they won 27 games last year. It seems too easy that they would win more than 28, so that is definitely the scary part. The east should be possible to make the playoffs. It has been and should be again this year. I figured the Bulls would be close to 40 wins, right on that playoff cut level. Maybe we are just homers who think higher of this team than should be. Maybe Vegas is right to set it at 28. Maybe the under is the play…hahaha. Seems crazy but who knows. That’s what Vegas does to your mind in setting a line like that. No play for me but seems like the Bulls should get there easy. Playoffs will not be easy, but it should be attainable. GO BULLS!!!
