You knew the Cubs would. Were you worried when both Britton and Happ went to the Yankees? There are still options, and the Cubs made their choice. Cole Hamels is coming to Chicago.
I’ve always been a fan. I didn’t mind when the Phillies won the World Series that year. I was happy they beat the Dodgers to get there. Of course the Dodgers had swept us, the team with the best record in the NL, in the NLDS. So I was all in on the Phillies. I had went to a game earlier in the season at Wrigley vs the Phillies. It was one of the best games I ever attended. Two playoff teams battling it out. A beautiful summer night at Wrigley. An Aramis Ramirez grand slam to give us the lead late. It was awesome. I told some Phillies fans, see you in the playoffs. We didn’t hold up our end of the bargain. Funny enough, I saw a Dodgers fan at Wrigley this past Monday night. I told him the same thing. I hope this isn’t history repeating itself.
Back to Hamels… I thought we were going to get him years ago; didn’t happen. But now, it’s official. I love the numbers around Hamels. His home road splits, his numbers vs the NL Central, his numbers at Wrigley, his postseason success. Being a lefty is perfect for that potential matchup with the Dodgers. More importantly, just having another arm to help us get there.
Chatwood has been one of the most frustrating pitchers this year. As luck were to have it, I’ve seen him pitch in person three times this year. The walks…the fricking walks!!! Just hate that, especially when you have an awesome defense behind you. Pitch to contact. Make them earn it. They’ve done that too off Chatty, but because of the preceding walks, one hit could really do damage. Anyways, to the bullpen he goes. Honestly, I can’t see Joe bringing him in the game in a meaningful situation. What, so he can walk somebody? He’ll be used in blowout scenarios one way or another to hopefully prove he can throw the ball over the plate.
Chatty had the same type of home road splits as Hamels. We thought that was good for Tyler, coming from Colorado; we think it’s good for Cole coming from Texas. Hopefully the Hamels results are better. Word is his debut will be Wednesday vs the pirates.

i don’t think we’re done either. I think the Cubs will add another arm…a third arm. Let’s not forget about Jesse Chavez; I really like that move. He’s started in his career too, so having him come in and pitch a few innings if need be is not out of the question. He’s been good so far; he’s earning my trust.
What will the next move be? I have a theory but will have to save it for an upcoming post. Like I said, I do think the Cubs will be back at work, again adding an arm to this pitching staff. Thinking another starter…
If they don’t, fine. But the finish line is right in front of us. Theo and company will do whatever it takes to help us get there and finish strong. Go Cubs!!!

I love the Hamels pick up, too. In my opinion, you can never have enough starters, especially lefty studs. So add Hamels with Lester and Q…pretty damn good 3 lefty starters! Chatwood has definitely been a head scratcher. Just do not understand why the ball cannot be thrown over the plate. I mean, the guy is averaging about a walk an inning. Talk about shooting himself in the feet repeatedly…just crazy! Hoping Hamels is ready to rejuvenate his career and season with the Cubs. He can be a big part of the stretch run. Are the Cubs done? Not sure, but Trust in Theo! He is putting the pieces together for another long run! GO CUBS GO!!!
