In between all these family vacations, my wife and I have had many a trip together. It all started the year we met, about 17 years ago.
Sandusky, Ohio was our first destination. Not too flashy, but it was fun… a lot of fun. That city is the home of the famous amusement park, Cedar Point. There was a waterpark inside too. Amusement parks were part of a lot of those trips growing up; it was also part of the 2018 family trip.
We have already been to Vegas; yeah, I know… 2 vacations in one year? Well, that one was specifically for Father’s Day, plus, we didn’t take any trips last year, so two flights on Big Blue were scheduled. Southwest Airlines is Big Blue if you don’t know… or maybe that’s just what my son refers to it as. Anyways…
LEGOLAND was the amusement park featured on this family trip. We got a 2 day pass to ensure we had enough time to hit every ride, enjoy the waterpark, and explore the aquarium. We had already been to Disney, although I’m sure we will go again. However, with my son pretty big into Legos, this seemed like a no brainer. Plus the location was perfect. We stood in La Jolla, which is a tad north of San Diego, and a tad south of LEGOLAND.

They had whole cities built out of Legos. Las Vegas, New York, Paris, London… plus all the Star Wars stuff. They built whole scenes from each movie: Tatooine, Hoth, the Death Star. It was crazy.
My son’s favorite is the whole Ninjago stuff. He was able to take pictures with Kai and Jay; Lloyd was not going to make an appearance. We rode the Ninjago ride, where you chopped your enemies along the way. Then of course there was the Ninjago store… yeah, we had to pay the piper there, as my son got his little vacation haul. I was looking forward to the roller coasters.
He’d been on a couple small ones, but there were 3 different ones here, all bigger than the ones he had been on. He was scared of the first one, the biggest one; I let it go… I knew we’d be back. We started off with one called the Dragon. I don’t think my son realized what line we were waiting in, but he figured it out soon enough. He may have been a bit nervous, but after the ride, he looked at me and said “that was great”! Yes! And after we hit the smallest one, we made it back to the big one… I knew it, and yes, he loved that one too.
So now I have another roller coaster partner… my wife gets a break, although she joined us on one of them too. My original roller coaster partner was my Dad…. forcing me to go on those, while pointing at the other little kids doing it… haha. I think I only really freaked out on one… Z Force at Great America I think it was. I ended up loving most of them too. He always told me that screaming would make it more fun; he was right. I screamed my head off on these 3 coasters…

Amusement parks were always fun. They still are today although I was never a big fan of the coasters. Not sure what age I finally started going on them, but I do remember Dad telling us to look at all the smaller kids going on…hahaha. It is a line I now use today!
They do some pretty cool stuff with legos. It is amazing how many they use to make everything they do. Legos and coasters is a pretty cool combination. Glad you guys enjoyed it! And screaming is definitely the way to go when riding them!
