July 1, 2018: Heating Up

posted in: Cubs | 1

What a difference a weekend makes… On Monday of last week, we were all on the ledge after the Cubs were swept by the Reds.  Now as the sweep of the Twins concludes in historic fashion, the mighty Cubs are back.

With Sunday’s win, the Cubs marked their 4th consecutive game of scoring 10 runs or more; first time since 1930.  As the temperature was heating up this weekend in Chicago, so were the bats.  Sometimes Wrigley can be such a pitcher’s ball park; this weekend was not one of those times.  Are there other parks that can be so influenced by the weather/wind like Wrigley is?  The weather was hot, the wind was blowing out, and away we went.

And now, just past the half way point at 47-35, the Cubs are 0.5 game out of first place.  After getting swept by the Reds, we were rooting for them this past weekend against the Brewers.  They did well, splitting the series.  Now, as the Twins exit Chicago, we root for them.  A victory against the Brewers in the first game of their series means the Cubs are tied for first place.

Yet, just as last week, I wasn’t completely losing my mind like some fans, I’m not completing going bonkers now.  This is the roller coaster that is the major league baseball season.  We should be used to this.  I know it’s hard, as a die hard, in a vacuum, watching your team play… reacting to every single game either positively and negatively… wanting your team to win every single game; ain’t happening.  We know the Cubs are a really good team, bottom line.  It’s all about the injuries and who’s is playing the best at the end of the season; the Cubs aren’t going anywhere.  We will be in this discussion to the end.

As per a survey, it has been found that nearly 70% of the cases were caused by different cheapest cialis unica-web.com medical conditions excluding hormonal imbalance. This weekend was fun though… all those runs.  Russell’s grand slam was awesome; loved Lester’s 3 run shot.  I can’t believe they almost blew that lead on Sunday…  That collision between Russell and Baez was scary.  Addison did go out of the game; hopefully he’s OK.  Don’t need anything to tarnish this weekend’s results.  Although what about Darvish?

Yeah, sorry to bring this up, but WTF?  Going to Texas to get a second opinion…  is he done?  He hasn’t contributed crap all year anyways, but man, that would still hurt.  I guess we can get by with 3 top notch arms in the playoff, although only one has really been performing like one.  Would be nice to see Darvish regain some of his old form and make a difference in this second half.  We’ll need all the horses we can get.

And what horses should we add?  If Darvish can’t come back, do we grab another starter?  Are we still in on the Machado trade talks?  What about bringing Dexter back from St. Louis; heard he’s struggling down there?  What else can be done to make us bulletproof?

This is a great time of year.  Weather is beautiful, Cubs are playing good ball; we have 2 games on the docket already this month.  Will they be in first place when I see them again?  Go Cubs!

4 straight games of 10+ runs is impressive…not gonna lose too many games when the bats are that hot. They seem to be heating up just like this weather has been…nothing wrong with that. Lester’s 3run shot and curtain call was sWeet. He has worked hard on his batting, and it is paying off. Not that the Cubs need him to hit, just keep pitching Lester, it is nice that can contribute at the plate, too. Yu has been a disappointment so far, but he has time to turn it around. Take your time and get healthy. Not ready to call it quits for him this year. Can the Cubs make it 5 straight games of 10+ runs? Stay tuned. GO CUBS GO!!!
