I don’t get it. How can a team that looks so dominant look so bad? How does a team that looks SO overmatched come back and tie this series? Is it the ratings game for NBC Sports Network? Does home ice matter THAT much in the playoffs? Do the Hawks need to be pushed in order to get the best out of them? Just when you think you got everything figured out, something like this happens. I didn’t want a series. I didn’t think we needed to waste 6 or 7 games on this team. It’s not about what I want…
So the conversation goes something like this: NBC- What can we do to extend this series? Blackhawks- You got any ideas? NBC- Yeah, we have a few. First off, don’t shoot the puck on goal. Secondly, keep Leddy and Rozsival on the ice as much as possible. Finally, give Crawford the sleeping pills before the game. Blackhawks- OK. Let’s make this thing interesting. Thanks a lot NBC. How many shots did we have today? We had to have more than 19 right? Yep, 20. So a combined 39 shots in Minnesota these past 2 games? Check. I was wondering why Leddy was a healthy scratch last game. Now I’m wondering if we can make him a healthy scratch next game. The only problem is that who will be the 3rd defensive pairing when we healthy scratch Rozsival too. Did those guys look lost out there tonight or was it just me? Leddy has just been a big-time disappointment, while I think we’ve seen about as much Rozsival as we can take. Although nifty at times, this guy is a turnover waiting to happen; not to mention his speed on skates is equivalent to Paul Konerko running to 1st base. (I had a small place in my heart for Rozsival, since we sat behind his family last year at the Hawks game. I saw 2 boys with Rozsival jerseys on, and I thought, that’s weird, who the heck would wear a Rozsival jersey unless he was your dad. Yep, you got it.) He has his moments, and maybe he has another 1 or 2 left in the chamber, but I think we’re seeing his last year as a Blackhawk. That brings us to Crawford. Not your finest performance in net Crow. Used that glove with the hole in it again huh? Could you move a little slower from side to side on that power play goal? The guy had to settle the puck down, and still had enough time to get it by you. For Crawford, we have to give him a pass for this one, right? OK. I’ll ease up on Corey. This whole NBC thing worked itself out like a charm though.
OK, let’s throw the conspiracy theory out the window, and talk about home ice. Yeah, they were waving their towels (can’t get into that towel waving at any game, sorry), and we were in the “state of Hockey”, but come on. No way home ice makes that much of a difference. I seem to remember the Blackhawks winning some pretty big games on the road on the way to their previous Stanley Cups… like both clinchers. So, I’m not buying it.

That brings us to the third theory, that the Blackhawks need to be pushed to bring out the best in them. Ding, ding, ding. That’s the best I can think of. The whole team looked disinterested again, except for maybe Hossa. He played his ass off. Nobody else really seemed to stand out. Sharp’s goal was a soft one, while Handzus made an awesome deflection. If the Blackhawks needed a push, they got it. They got a series now. Now, instead of closing out the series on Sunday night, we look to keep home ice. I still think they do, and I still think they win the series.
I guess that’s the beauty of sports, and as they say, that’s why you play the games. I’m not Eddie Olczyk, but I couldn’t see a way this series would get past 5 games. Your job is safe Eddie. I’ll stick to this blog, where I can continue to be overconfident, and have a defiant attitude against this Wild team. They can’t beat us in Chicago at the United Center where we are undefeated… can they?

OUTPLAYED & OUTCOACHED
HOW DO WE NOT MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS IN OUR GAME AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST 3 GAMES. MAYBE THE WILD HAS FOUND A WAY TO ACTUALLY PLAY WITH 8 GUYS ON THE ICE AT ONE TIME!!!!!

The crowd finally got to Crawford.

If the Hawks needed to get a fire lit, it should be burning strong now, and it better be or they might see this series leave them behind. Rozival and leddy were useless last night. Rozival turns the puck over like a pancake. Leddy cant get much weaker as a D man. Crow had a rough night but still made enough saves to keep us in the game. Unfortunately, 20 shots is not near enough to get the job done. I thought this was a 5 game series, but honestly, I think it is going 7. GO HAWKS!!

Ohhhhhhh, you had to use the Paul Konerko analogy. Come on man, isn’t there anyone slow on the Cubs?
