What’s up with Yu Darvish?
How much did we pay this guy? Too much at this point. Actually, he just made his best start of the year, and now he’s hurt? He’s already been on the DL for the flu? And now tricep tightness? He can barely get out of the 5th inning and now he’s on the DL for the second time this year? Nervous yet?
Lester struggled in his first year with the big money deal. But like I’ve said, you can’t compare the two. No, Darvish is getting me worried. I’m not done with him by a long shot; I just want to see something out of him sooner than later.
He was supposed to start in the primetime ESPN game, but, nope. Does he have a problem with the big moment? That’s what we can say, even though he made one hell of a start against us last year in October. The other guy that pitches for the Phillies didn’t have a problem with the moment…
I don’t know… To me, Jake just didn’t want to be here, regardless of what he said. It’s not like we made a low ball offer to him, like the Bears did with Urlacher. I completely side with Brian in that whole deal, but the Cubs offered Jake a chunk. But, because of some of his earlier comments, like no home town discount, and the fact that his agent was looking for 200M, I think he already expected that, and anything less would be an insult, even coming from your home town team. I don’t think that was right. The Cubs “home town discount” offer was substantial. If he wanted to be here, he would be. He didn’t want to be here, and that’s OK.

So we went with Yu. Liked the move no doubt, but now? Well, at this point, I just want to see him pitch some more. I want to see some positive stuff. I want to see the reason we paid him all this dough. Quintana has struggled; Chatwood leads the league in walks, yet the pitcher I worry the most about is Yu.
Is he still tipping pitches? Is he wilting under the Chicago pressure? Is he fragile, easily injured? Does he really miss his catcher that much? Well, Gimenez made his debut on Monday in Pittsburgh. It certainly looks like Yu will get his guy. I’m fine with that. Again, can’t compare the two, but Ross and Lester worked out pretty well.
Take all the excuses away from him, and let’s see him perform. Yes it’s not even June yet, and it’s barely the start of his contract, but I am a bit worried. I don’t usually worry, but in this case, I’ve made an exception.
I hope I’m wrong; I hope he’ll prove me wrong. Only time will tell. Come on Darvish; let’s make it happen. Go Cubs!
