May 12, 2018: Crosstown Talk

This has to be the earliest the Cross Town series has ever been played.  They’re really trying to limit fights in these games.  First scheduling games during the week, now scheduling them early in the year.  The only thing that may backfire is scheduling the second set of these games at Sox Park in September.  While the Sox will be zoning in on that #1 draft pick, the Cubs will be sewing up a playoff spot.  Cubs fans will fill that stadium.  I guess the only thing for the Sox to cheer for then would be to try and ruin the Cubs season, and maybe see some of their prospects up by that time… they need them.  This Sox team is really bad right now.

9-27 was the worst 36 game start to the season in franchise history… wow!  I know the rebuild is ongoing, but… this looks like it will be a typical Chicago construction project, and last a decade.  It’s very ugly to see…

On Friday I got a text message from a buddy of mine…. die hard Sox fan.  He said he would be making his first trip to Wrigley in his lifetime.  Before this day, he had never set foot in the treasure that is Wrigley.  He did that because he hates the Cubs that much.  He wouldn’t even attend a concert in there, let alone a game in which the Cubs are playing.  If any game would be chosen to break this streak, it would be the Cross Town Series.  He gets to proudly rock his Sox gear in Wrigley.  He said he sold the Contreras bobble head the minute he got it; I told him I would have paid him for it!  He had awesome seats, right behind the on deck circle for the Cubs.  He saw a pretty damn good game too…

Yes, this Cubs Sox thing runs pretty deep in some circles.  It’s a great time for trash talk.  It’s time for all those fans who claim to be fans of both, and yes, I do know some of them, to pick a side.  Most others have their side picked out the other 156 games.  There is no rooting for both teams when they are playing each other.  No, one or the other, period.  You can’t be happy for the other team when your team loses, can you?  Is that even possible?  I guess in some rare cases… can’t think of one right now, but maybe?

Anyways, my wife’s family from New York asked about this series too, and if it was that serious.  I told him that if these two teams ever met in the World Series, it would be a civil war in Chicago.  Being a Yankee fan, he had similar feelings towards the Mets.  Being a Yankee fan, I told him we may be visiting him sometime in October this year…

But for now, we’ll have to beat the crap out of the worst team in the majors that is the Sox.  And beat the crap out of them we did on Friday and Saturday.  I figured they’d at least win one game though…

And watching the highlights from those games, made me smile.  Seeing the Cubs pound the Sox into submission was fun.  How did my buddy like Wrigley you ask?  We already know the answer to that one; if I told you, he may be chastised by Sox fans… Go Cubs!!!
