As I was driving through the city the other day, I saw someone wearing a Bears t-shirt. That’s not too rare, but I hadn’t seen the name and number on the back of that shirt in a long time. It was the famous #8… the guy who “led us” to the last Super Bowl we played in. Rex Grossman was our QB. Seeing that old name got me thinking about old jerseys…
Thinking about my Bears jerseys, Butkus, Payton, and Urlacher, we’re definitely not talking about any obscure names. If I were to get another Bears jersey, it wouldn’t be any current player; those will be reserved for my son going forward. Trubisky is next on the menu for him. As far as my next jersey… Not sure if I need any more honestly; can’t get better than the ones I have, but then again, you can never have too much Bears gear. I would have to go back to the 85 Bears; obviously many good choices there.
I’ve seen people with Fencik jerseys, McMahon, and some Perry ones; I like seeing jerseys that you don’t see every day. Singletary is another one that I saw that brought a smile to my face; still can’t figure out why that jersey isn’t retired. If I had to pick another one… there’s DD 22, which is my favorite number. Then there is the whole D line… already mentioned Perry, Mongo, Hampton… can’t go wrong, but… I think I would lean to #95. The Super Bowl MVP Richard Dent would be a fine choice in my opinion. If anyone reading this has the urge, my size is XXL.
Or maybe I need to go back further… Sayers would be a fine choice. I do see that jersey from time to time. Or how about a 46 Plank jersey? You know, the origin of the 46 defense. 89 Ditka is a pretty popular choice as well. Or what about a Grange or Halas jersey; now THAT would be old school.

I could go to some players in more recent vintage. If that was the case, I would go back to our other Super Bowl team. Already have Urlacher… Briggs would be a fine choice, although Otis may be the 55 I would choose. Mike Brown, Charles Tillman, Tommie Harris… all stalwarts on that Lovie Smith defense. I still do see Benson shirts floating around here and there, although the RB of choice from that team would be Jones. Muhammad is another one I’ll see from time to time..
After that team, there is no other jersey I would get, period. The one that I see that makes my skin crawl is of course the #6 one. I’m pretty much OK with wearing old jersey numbers, even if those guys were traded or left to play on other teams, but not Cutler. That would be the one ex-Bears jersey that I would burn…. or sell on eBay for like $10.
Any other ex-Bears jerseys you would have a problem with? Nobody else comes to mind that brings that level of hate. But plenty come to mind that bring a smile to my face. In fact, I should take a picture of folks I see walking around with these old jerseys, and post them… I really do need to quit my day job… haha.

#8, sexy rexy…hahaha! Throw back jersey you dont see too much of. I have an Urlacher jersey and a personalized one. Cant beat any of the classics: sayers, ditka, butkus, payton. Any of the 85 Bears jerseys would be sweet, too. The ones you mention on D but how about speedy Willie, #83, or Mckinnon, #85? How about a #26, Matt Suhey…hahaha? Dont see too many #35, neal anderson jerseys, either…wonder why. Cant really think of any others that I would hate seeing…maybe #31, salaam? It is tough to get a current Bears player jersey, but you have to figure MTru and possibly Howard seem to be good options. BEAR DOWN!!!
