March 21, 2018: Feeling Strong

posted in: Cubs | 2

It seems like forever since I talked about the Cubs…

I did write about missing Jake and how I can’t get into Spring Training, but believe you me, the excitement for the regular season to get started is bubbling.  It is real.

I’m excited for the start of every Cubs season of course, but lately it’s been more than that.  The feeling that they can do something special, like they did 2 years ago.  Honestly, the last 3 years has been a pretty nice ride altogether.  What does year 4 of this golden era hold for our Cubbies?

Well, I’m feeling strong, how about you?  There is no reason why the Cubs can’t go out and win 100 plus games, take the division easily, claim the NL pennant, and win their 2nd World Series title in the last 3 years.  Who’s with me?

The starting rotation of Lester, Q, Hendricks, Yu, and Chatwood is better than it has maybe ever been.  Yeah, I know, I miss Jake too, but if he didn’t want to be here, we don’t want him here.  I still love Jake, always will, but it seemed like it was best for everybody.  Getting Yu may be huge for us this year.  The guy has like 6 different pitches.  Now as long as he gets away from pitch tipping, which many said he did in the World Series that caused him to get rocked, we’ll be good.  I said it before, but I like getting a guy that almost won it… they came back hungrier.

Speaking about hungry, I think that hunger is back this year.  The hangover after a World Series is real, especially after the historic party that the Cubs kicked off.  It took a while for the team to hit their stride, and honestly, never fully did.  They did get rolling enough to beat a really good Nationals team, and then the Dodgers got a measure of revenge by knocking us out.  That’s OK though… who won the World Series?

Yeah, it’ll most likely be the usual suspects again next year.  Will we meet LA for the 3rd straight year in the postseason?  Will we meet up with last year’s World Series champs who think they’re better than the Cubs?  By the way, I think the Astros will find out how real the hangover is too.  Maybe it doesn’t play out the same way it did for the Cubs last year, and it certainly wasn’t the same type of historic title win as the Cubs, so the hangover won’t be as bad, but… watch out Houston.  Say what you like, but let’s see how it plays out on the field.

For the record, I don’t care if we meet them in the World Series.  I don’t care who we meet in the playoffs.  There is no team that scares me; there is no team with more talent than the Cubs have right now.  We are the cream of the crop, and I absolutely can’t wait to start playing games that count.

Yes, I’m feeling a bit confident, but why not?  Like I said, it’s the golden era of Cubs baseball, and it’s not going to be over any time soon.  Enjoy it!  Let’s play ball!  Go Cubs!

Let me start by say, I can not wait for baseball to start. I can’t wait for the CUBS to be back on TV. With the Bulls and Blackhawks tanking this year, its really hard to justify watching TV in general. If it wasn’t for the NCAA, I’d be ripping out what is left of my hair.

But, lets go back to Jake and Mr. Scott Boras. Now if Jake would have taken a one year offer from the CUBS, he would have been back home, among his baseball family, in a city he knows. If he would have played his ass off, the CUBS would have gotten an ACE and Jake would have been playoff bound. Instead, he is in a city he doesn’t know, surrounded by 1st and 2nd year players looking at him as a teacher, which is really hard when you do not know anyone. Phillies are NOT going to the playoffs and no one will be pushing playoffs, b/c they are rebuilding.

Scott Boras in my eyes is a cancer, not only to baseball, but to the players on his client list. Just look at the players he has gotten a ton of money for, but where are they now? Who really cares about A-rod? He burned his bridges in Seattle, Texas, and from what I see the Yankees. He is not really a good baseball analyst and I have seen him on Shark Tank, they hype him up, but he really has no grasp of what it takes to run a business.

Other Scott Boras clients who we do not hear about are, Kevin Brown, Ben McDonald, J. D. Drew, Bernie Williams, Adrián Beltré, Andruw Jones, and Carlos Beltrán to name a few. Don’t get me wrong, these are good to great players, who got paid, but were they really worth the money they got paid? The only exception is (not b/c I’m a CUBS fan) is Greg Maddux, I really believe with the CUBS and the Braves, deserved every penny he got. This guy is a used car salesman and having are time placing Jake with a playoff bound team, should serve as a wake up call to all MLB players on his client list. The owners will not be scared or dogged into a big contract anymore. Boras’ time has passed and all MLB team are weary of his tactics and dealing with his free agent sells.

I love Arrieta, and will NEVER forget what he has done for the CUBS, but you are 32 years old right handed pitcher and expecting a 5 year 200 million contract is ridiculous! Come on, your a grown ass man in the latter part of your career. Take an offer from the CUBS for 2 years to 3 years, pitcher your ass off and take a radio or TV gig with the CUBS. You would have been a god in Chicago and made tons of money here on endorsements alone!

Good luck in Philly man, but you made a bad choice and will probably be traded by June, I hope you enjoy that Boras money.

    GO CUBS!

Baseball is right around the corner and that means your 2018 Chicago Cubs will be opening their even year World Series campaign. The Cubs are definitely looking strong. It sure does feel nice knowing that the Cubs will be great going into the year. Prior to the last few years, it was always a wish and a hope. Now, there is a legitimate reason to be excited. The Cubs should be a force again this year. Their pitching staff is top notch, and we already know how much talent there is on the offensive side of things. Health and playing up to potential will be the big things for the Cubs. The hangover was rougher than expected. Now, that is over and everyone should be hungrier than ever to erase that nlcs loss last year to lala and get back to winning it all…again. Yes, Jake will be missed. His place in our memories will forever be etched, but he thought he would get more money or years and had to settle with the phils. No way would I think he wanted to leave Chicago for philly for comparable money. Boras probably promised more than he could deliver on. Oh well. It is all about the Cubs again. Another playoff year, nlcs vs lala, and a World Series vs the asstros! Sounds good to me! GO CUBS GO!!!
