Was Monday night’s Bulls Nets match up the worst game of the year? The case can definitely be argued. It wasn’t that long ago that tanking was not the name of the game, and fighting for a playoff series win was. I remember it fondly…
It’s been 5 years since that classic seven game playoff series. That was the year when Derrck Rose was cleared to play, yet chose not to step on the court. At that point, I was still on Derrick’s side. He knows his body best. If he doesn’t feel right, he shouldn’t play. Surely if he could play he would, right? Well, with everything that’s transpired since then, the graduation comments, the max contract comments, pretty much any time he’s opened his mouth comments, it’s almost impossible to still take his side. Hindsight is easy, but knowing what I know now, Derrick should have played that series.
Yet, we won without him. Everybody was banged up. Taj’s ankles were shot, yet he was out there. Deng the warrior played until he ended up in the hospital. And Noah…the man showed us all what he was made of. In Game seven in Brooklyn, he simply would not let us lose. I miss Jo. I miss that whole team.
Nate with the buckets in that 3OT thriller. Buckets starting to show flashes. It was an epic series win for the Bulls which setup a rematch against the hated Heat. Maybe that’s what Derrick was waiting for. THiS series. Here is where we’d see the return. Here is where we’d get some payback and get closer to number seven.

With Rose still listening to his body and Deng in the hospital, payback would not happen. It wouldn’t happen now or ever. The following year was the horrible first round series to the Wizards. The next year would be our last of that window, and Lebron this time in Cleveland, would close us out. And that was that.
And then there was the disastrous season one under Hoiberg, followed by another joke of a season with the Three Alphas. Now in year three of the Fredberg regime, the Bulls are fighting hard for that worst record in the league. Starting Payne and Felicio? If the NBA is going to fine anybody, I’m sorry, but they should be fining the Bulls. The striving for losses has never been so obvious.
It’s so bad that we let a team like Brooklyn beat us. They are clearly a bad team, but it didn’t matter. We have them two more times this year I believe. The rest of the teams racing for the bottom keep losing too. It’s all pretty clear to me. All those teams should be fined too. There has to be some repercussion for aiming to lose ever game, no?
So as we endure through this night after night, it’s nights like this that make me remember. I remember a fonder time for the Bulls. One full of hope, when playing hard was valued. Maybe next year we’ll feel that way again.

Worst game of the year? The Bulls might be playing in a bunch of those to finish out this year. They are headed for the cellar, but with 7 or so other teams doing the same thing, a win or 2 here or there could be the difference in getting that top pick.
5 years since the Bulls upset of the nets huh? Wow, time flies. The team has been turned upside down since then and have no one from the Bulls team on the roster, correct? All of those warrior Bulls are gone. Drose not included in that statement but still thankful he is gone…what a bust since that first injury…long way from rookie of the year and mvp, never to be seen again.
So as the Bulls continue their tanking game, playing hard may still be a fact for some guys, but when the organization really wants losses, sometimes guys are fighting a losing battle. Hopefully, this will be the last year the Bulls have to compete in the tanking game. GO BULLS!!!
