December 26, 2017: Getting The Last One

posted in: Bulls | 1

Coming off 8 in a row, the Bulls went on a 3 game road trip, visiting 3 of the top teams in the East.  After falling to the Cavs and the Celtics, their last chance to salvage one of those games came in Milwaukee on Tuesday night.  It was a very good game.

We’ve kind of gotten in a groove now… watching the Bulls that is.  I wasn’t that interested in watching the tank-a-Bulls this year.  Sitting there, tuning in, to loss after loss after loss… that would grow old quick.  I would try to watch, but it wouldn’t be worth the aggravation.  Then these guys flipped the script on GarPax and started winning games.  It was somewhere during that 8 game winning streak that I started watching a bit closer; we were trying to incorporate the Bulls game into our evening plans at home each night.  And I will admit, they are becoming a fun team to watch.

They are the true underdog, and who doesn’t like a good underdog story?  I know we love those here in Chicago.  We love those teams that seem to play with a chip on their shoulder.  They may not bring home the hardware when it’s all said and done, but they are easy teams to root for.  As long as you’re out there, giving it your all, regardless of the talent level, we can get behind you.  And dammit, I’m starting to feel that way about these guys.

I was trying to resist… trying to hold my die-hardness in… hating that Reinsdorf doesn’t give a crap about the Bulls any longer, has completely turned his focus to the White Sox, and is slowly turning over the Bulls to his son.  Hating what GarPax have done to this team in the recent years… letting Thibs go, trading guys for nothing, and even dumping a young draft pick this year for money.  Every instinct in my body is telling me to hate these guys.  Yet… at the end of the day, the Bulls are my team.  I’ve been over this before… this struggle… this principle.  Not one owner, GM, or player will make me root against MY team.

I fully expect them to dump some of these guys that have been doing good during this run, specifically Niko.  They need to do something to try to slow this team down a bit… try to turn this train back towards that top draft pick, but… maybe that’s what’s pushing these guys.  The more they try to hamstring them, the more nobody is giving them a chance, the harder they will play.  I can’t hate that.  Until then, I’m trying to enjoy the ride.

The Bucks should beat the Bulls; that’s what everybody thought anyways.  The Greek Freak came out playing well, but didn’t do crap in the 2nd half.  I was sort of unimpressed with his play… or was it the Bulls defense?  Middleton couldn’t hit a shot to save the world, and then there was Niko… continuing his hot play.  Dunn with some nice defensive plays, some nice drives.  Holliday with an impressive dunk.  It all added up to a Bulls win, which is 8 out of 10 if you’re keeping track.

Yes, while you were recovering from Christmas, the Bulls were busy getting the last one.  Now, they return home, and my increased interest pushed me to purchase some tickets for Wednesday night’s game; that, and the fact that my son is off for 2 weeks.  So we’ll be in the house to see these Bulls take on the Knicks.  I get to see for myself, in person, how good these guys are.  Go Bulls!

It is easy to watch a winner each and every year. For those down years like the Bulls are experiencing, there has to be something there to make it tolerable to watch. It seems that this Bulls team has it. They are young, but they play hard. The effort is there. They want to win regardless of their talent level. I like that. Play hard and want it. The Bulls might not be a .500 team or win more than 30 games this year, but at least the effort and want is there. That is important. So enjoy 1 W of 3 vs the top teams in the east. Maybe this Bulls train wreck isn’t as far off as we thought. Maybe it is just more talent that is needed and not a complete makeover? Either way, keep working and playing hard! GO BULLS!!!
