Week 2 is here. We should be talking about the Bears trying to start the season 2-0, and worst case losing to a tough Niner team on the road that’ll put them at 1-1. Well, we need a win against this tough Niner squad in Frisco to avoid starting 0-2. Will it happen? Read on…
Let’s start with something that is going to make me feel good: the Vegas angle. The Bears are coming off an embarassing loss to a Bills team that will be lucky to win 6 games this year. The 49ers are coming off a thrashing of a Cowboy team (a bad team too BTW) on national TV, the FOX afternoon Game of the Week. Now, the Bears head into San Francisco in Primetime to open the Niners new stadium. The line for the game? The Niners are only favored by a TD. That’s surprising to me… a good kind of surprise. One that makes me think that the Niners are a sucker play this week. One that makes me think that maybe, just maybe, the Bears can upset them. OK, that’s the good news.
How will the offense fare? We have 2 OL that may not play, a #2 WR that may not play, and a #1 WR that may not be 100%. Why aren’t the Niners favored by more? Then there’s Cutler… I support him because he is our QB, but man this guy irks me. With 2 more picks last weeks, 2 costly picks, he continues to make the same mistakes he’s always made. Last time we went to Frisco, we got clobbered because Jason Campbell was our QB, while Colin had his breakout game for SF. Last time we went to Frisco with Cutler, I remember the game… I believe it was a Thursday night affair, and I’m pretty sure Cutler threw 5 picks. OK, so maybe the Niners defense isn’t as good as it has been; that has yet to be seen. But for the Bears to have success on offense, let me say one name, and repeat it. Forte, Forte, Forte. Sorry to put it all on your shoulders buddy, but we need a HUGE game out of Matty boy. This will give us a chance on offense.
Defensively, the Bears will be challenged… I mean, they are challenged? OK, so I don’t think they played that bad last week. Again, it was Buffalo and this is Frisco. I think if the Bears defense is that bad, it will really show up in this game. With the mobile QB and solid running game, I hope we don’t get embarassed. I think the defense will be better… they have to be. I think there are some guys on that side of the ball, like Allen, Briggs, Tillman, and Jennings, who have a lot of pride. Are they too old? They are getting there, but I think they have another year or two left, and that’s all we really need from them. I don’t think they’re quite ready to ride out to the pasture… I expect the Bears defense to play respectfully this week… I expect the Bears defense to play respectfully all year. I may be in the minority here.
I’m not even going to waste my time breaking down the special teams. Unless the Bears show me something, I’m automatically chalking this up as a loss each and every week.
In sticking to my script, and going by my original picks for the Bears win-loss record, I’m picking the Niners here. The Bears have already turned one W into an L for me… they need to turn a projected L into a W. I really don’t think it happens this week, that is, unless Papa Vegas comes through for us.

Final Score prediction: Niners 31 Bears 27
Ace in the Hole time… Let’s clarify some things here. I will only be picking Bears here, and will only recognize hits on an Ace in the Hole pick if the Bears win. That being said, Drinking Fortes had the best pick with Forte last week… sounds good to me for this week too.
Ace in the Hole: Matt Forte–> 125 rushing yards, 76 receiving yards, 2 TDs
Please post those final score predictions and Ace in the Hole picks. (Mo, you would have nailed it last week with Bears 24 Bills 20 if we score a TD on that last drive in the 4th instead of a FG).
BEAR DOWN! (I didn’t know that would be the motto for the Bears this year… we’ve been saying that for decades!!!)

sf 34-10
aith-santonio scores our only td
Drinkin Fortes
Thanks for the shout out on my Ace in the Hole pick. Didn’t know a win was required for recognition. I appreciate the clarification.
Not too confident about this week, but I’ll be the optimist.
Bears 22 Niners 21
Robbie Gould will be the Ace in the Hole kicking 5 FGs including the game winner with 10 seconds left. Forte will score our only TD.

23-20 Bears
Bears pull off the upset with a late Cutler to Marshall td…sf misses fg as time runs out. Robbie kicks 3 fgs but Cutler redeems himself with 300+, 3 tds including the game winner, and no turnovers.

I’m afraid this game will get ugly quick for the Bears, I see SF getting over 200 yards on the ground, this will be Hyde’s coming out game 12 carries 125 yards and 2 td’s. SF 38 Bears 24
