September 1, 2017: Going For It

posted in: Bears | 1

I decided I was going for it.  I wasn’t going to sit back and let all the good players get scooped up, while I saved my money; not this year.  With that change in philosophy, plus a bit more research, I was able to compile a team that I am pretty happy with.

It’s OK to overspend at the beginning, because you’ll be able to get a lot of guys later in the draft that you thought may cost you a lot more.  It all evens out.  Was I able to get everybody I wanted?  Of course not, but I was able to check off the top 5 on my draft board.

I was 8th to select a player for auction, and I picked AJ Green.  Up until this point, I didn’t grab anybody; it was my time.  $52 for AJ Green was pretty reasonable in my opinion.  Although my other top pick for WR Julio Jones only went $3 higher, I got the guy I thought was going to have the better year.  The next 2 selections came fast and furious.  At 10 I scooped Jordan Howard for $49 & at 11 I grabbed Matty Ice for $23.  Howard was my guy last year, plus he’s a Bear, plus I think he’s going to have a huge year.  With Ryan, I got a guy who may not have another MVP year, but still should have a top 5 QB fantasy performance when it’s all said and done.  This was another change in strategy for me; I never spend on a QB.  I hope this will help me in the long run.

With already $124 out of my $200 spent, I didn’t let up.  At 22, I picked up my top WR2, with Terrelle Pryor; it cost me $26.  $50 left for the rest of my roster.  I still wanted a quality RB2, and I got my guy at the 42nd selection.  Carlos Hyde at $25 completed my team’s top 5.  That’s exactly what I wanted.  That’s exactly what I got.  That’s the beauty of an auction draft.

Now to fill in the blanks.  I needed to be careful on my expenditures from here on out, yet, I still wanted a decent WR3.  Stefon Diggs fit that bill at the 72nd selection for $11.  After him, I had to wait a long time for my next pick.  With $186 out of $200 spent, and 10 guys to go, I knew the majority of picks from here on out would be for $1.  That was OK; that was the plan.

The dollar hoes as we call them, looks like this on my team:  Vinatieri at 139 (old faithful at K), Jeremy Hill at 147 (he’s still the starting RB in Cincy; if he doesn’t start, then I only spent a buck on him), Jordan Matthews at 149 (cost me $2; very happy about this pick), Austin Hooper the Atlanta TE at 155 (Matty to Austin all day long), Carson Palmer at 161 (got him at $2; he’s usually my starting QB), Chicago D at 163 (I had to), Robby Anderson at 171 (last minute selection; heck, he’s the top WR with the Jets… I know it’s the Jets, but still… it’s a buck!), Tarik Cohen at 177 (handcuff!), Evan Engram at 182 (Manning usually throws to the TE), and CJ Fiedorowicz at 187 (possible starting TE when it’s all said and done).

I feel good.  I thought I did worse, but I did finish in 4th place last year; I have never won this league.  Maybe this is the year…

I wish the Bears would go for it and just start Trubisky already.  He played in the 4th preseason game but handed off 9 straight times???  Then gets hit late???  Don’t F this up Bears!  If he was starting, I definitely would have drafted him; Glennon remains a FA…

Thanks for reading about my fantasy team.  Don’t worry… I won’t talk about this often.  After all, there is still fantasy baseball going on, and of course, some other team that is rolling right now.  Let’s talk some more Cubs next!

As is my usual, my wide receiver corp is pretty impressive while my running backs are lacking. Kirk Cousins at qb? I guess I’ll see how that pans out…just throw the ball all the time skins. Julio, Cooper, and Demaryius are my top 3 wide receivers with zay jones a rookie sleeper. Hoping McCaffrey has a big year down in Carolina and have McFadden starting a few games early for the cowgirls. After that, just some shots in the dark for running backs. Oh well, I didn’t think my team was that good after all was said and done, but who knows. I am predicted to win week 1 so that has to mean something right? I did my job. Time for these guys to do theirs.
