How well do you manage your stress? I’ve always been pretty good about managing mine. Nothing really gets to me, until lately… New and different challenges both personally and professionally have kicked my stress levels above zero. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. I’m also pretty sure that it will only get tougher from here on out, on every level. But what did I expect I guess… life is a series of tests… one challenge after another… how do you manage your stress levels?
In my zero stress days, and still today on some level, the performance of my teams would get me going, one way or another. With the Cubs finally winning last year, I was finally able to check that box on my bucket list: I have seen each of my teams win a championship. That’s huge. It’s not like I don’t ever want to see it again, for any of my teams, but the fact that I’ve seen them all reach the top of the mountain, is pretty important. I don’t ask for much.
But I do… we always want our teams to win. Funny enough, the Cubs, just coming off that historic title, are the team that still gets me going the most currently. I think the main reason for that is because I know they are good enough to win it all. Finally winning one is great, but I don’t want that to be the last one I see. Plus, the way this team has been built, the window is wide open; I want to take advantage of every single opportunity. That’s the Cubs story, but what about the other teams?
It’s kind of a similar story with the Blackhawks. With 3 Cups this decade, we’ve seen what they can do; we know they still can win another… at least that’s what we thought. After this most recent playoff train wreck, for the first time, I started to think about the window closing for the Blackhawks; I still think there is time. It’s been such a great run… they’ve been such a great team. I’d love to see them win at least one more.

As far as the Bulls go… it’s the tale of two opposites. The main stress point there is not winning and losing; we know the Bulls will suck this year. I didn’t think much of last year either. Watching this year, on the court, should be pretty stress-less. But thinking about what we had, and what could have been, and who helped run this team into the ground, and those guys still being around, yeah… that pisses me off.
The White Sox… I can relate. All those losses piling up; it wasn’t that long ago when that team was the Cubs. But, we know how that eventually played out. Will the Sox follow the same trajectory? Time will tell, but as a Sox fan, try to not take the losses too hard, and try to stay focused on the future. It’s not easy, but it may be so worth it.
Finally, our Bears… the team that has gone the longest since their last championship. I’ve been so disgusted with them the past number of years; I would be so pissed off during football season in general because they’ve sucked. I’m ready to feel excited about football again, and that starts with Da Bears. Seeing Mitchell on the field the other day, I felt it. Now, I want more of it… but we may have to wait a while. Patience? Good luck to us all.
In the big scheme of things, these stresses caused by my teams pales to “real” life. But it’s at times like these, when watching them doesn’t add to my stress; it helps take me away for a while. Sure, winning is better, but just watching them play, helps make it all better. That’s how I help manage my stress levels. Good luck finding your happy place.

Stress is the silent killer. Cant let small things morph into big ones. Stay calm, deep breaths, and handle what you can, when you can.
As for wanting more, dont we always. In sports, we want more winning, specifically championships. The Cubs just won last year, but we want a repeat! The Bhawks have won 3 Cups in 8 years, but after a playoff sweep, there was talk about blowing them up. The sox won in 2005 but havent sniffed playoffs since then. The Bulls won 6 titles in the 90s but seem the farthest away from winning another. DA Bears won in 85, but that would be the one I want to see most now. I was only 6 when they won. Aside from a Cubs repeat, I would love see the Bears on top of the nfl. At the end of the day, life is short and sWeet. Dont sweat the small stuff and be happy!
