I actually did a work from home day on Friday. I hadn’t done that in forever. About 2 years ago, I scheduled one of these days every week. Every Wednesday I would work from home. It was nice to break up the week like that. I did actually work from home, but I never got as much done as I would have if I was in the office. The one difference was the fact that I was doing things earlier and later than a normal day. Nowadays, this year, I’ve probably worked from home a total of 5 days… if that.
Being home has its advantages. Between emails, I was able to concentrate on moving type activities. Yes, that’s been the reason that open window has been so small. Preparing to move at some point soon, getting our place ready to sell… as anybody who has ever moved will tell you, is a lot of work. So squeezing some stuff in during the work day was helpful. I also get to watch the Cubs game if it’s on. It was on Friday.
Yet, I didn’t get to watch most of the game. I turned it on in the 8th inning. Yeah, I know, nice timing. Blame me for that inning on this Friday afternoon against the Cardinals.
The Cubs were a cool 6-0 to start the All Star break, and leading 3-2 in game number 7, but… all good things come to an end. You didn’t think they would go undefeated did you? You didn’t think they would give up 9 runs in 1 inning did you?

6 walks will help that cause. 6 free passes?!?! That wasn’t for the game… that was for one inning!!! Even if the other 3 batters struck out, you’re talking 3 runs minimum. That is a sure formula for a bad inning, and a bad game. Make them hit the ball is what I say. I’m not sure why our relievers were trying to be so cute. Go right at them. It’s our best against their best. If they hit you, so be it. But don’t give them anything. Was it the pitch calling? I just couldn’t believe we wouldn’t go after them. It’s not like the Cardinals are scaring anybody.
Yeah, I watched that inning as I sorted through some things, and it seemed like 30 minutes before the Cubs even recorded one out. It was almost a helpless feeling. No matter who they brought in, we couldn’t get anybody out. Eventually we did, but the damage was done…. heck, it was over done. The Cardinals had kicked out butts and put an end to our winning streak.
I hate losing, especially to them. It will be my pleasure to complete catching up, and summarizing the rest of the series. 6-1 ain’t bad… 8-1 is better. It was a Saturday day game with Lester on the mound next. I started listening to that one in the 8th inning too…

What a rough start to the homestand after a 6-0 road trip! 6 walks in 1 inning??? That’ll do it, and it sure did. 9 runs in the 8th inning destroyed what looked to be a 3-2 close ballgame. Not real sure why pitchers continue to walk guys. I know, sometimes you just don’t have it, but everyone sees how bad walks come back to kill. I would love to see a stat on how many times a walk comes around to score and/or lead to a run. Oh well, 6-1 after the break aint bad…were not going to go undefeated or anything. Time to bounce back and take the last 2 games of the series…no way the red turds win another. It was the Cubs turn to strike in the 8th inning…all after 2 baby!
GO CUBS GO!!!
