Here we go again. Losing 6 in a row, winning 5 in a row, a current 2 game losing streak, 1 game above 500, 1 game out of first place. Just the ebbs and flows of a 162 game season.
Not everybody can be the 2016 Cubs, not even the 2017 version. After all, some team from Houston is doing the best impression so far. Yes, it’s a different year, and that’s ok. We’ve talked about this enough haven’t we?
You can’t get too high and you can’t get too low in baseball’s regular season. It’s hard, I know. Loving those wins, hating those losses. Like life itself, it truly is a grind…a beautiful, beautiful grind.
I want to get back to Wrigley. Not sure if I can wait until July 5th, the next game we have tickets for. Watching the Cubs play these last couple evenings…it’s just beautiful at Wrigley on these summer nights. It’s never beautiful losing though.
The Marlins escaped with one. Lackey wasn’t that great, but that’s who he is nowadays right? More average than anything; if you expect more, you’ll be disappointed. He’ll have a good game every now and then. The biggest thing about Lackey is that he is a postseason stud; hold on, WAS a postseason stud. He was a dud last year. This is his last year in a Cubs uniform; I’d be shocked if he’s back.

The fish scored their final run on a weird play. Gordon on 2nd base, rounded 3rd after a ground ball out, seemingly forgetting how many outs there were. Rizzo didn’t. He would have thrown him out easily. Problem was Miggy forgot too, or just couldn’t get up quick enough. The Cubs battled back all night, and when Heyward swung that bat in the bottom of the 9th, I thought they had won. Nope. Fly ball to center, game.
Worst part of the night was when the Addison Russell news broke. Now I think it’s clear why he’s been struggling. Some apparent off the field problems with his wife. Cheating is hopefully the worst of it; any type of abuse there would be horrible. More to come on that one.
So we were minus Addy in the series opener against the Rockies that will define this home stand as a success or not. With a Bryant home run in the first, we were on our way. Then, with 2 outs in the 2nd, the Rockies dinked and dunked their way to a run which was capped off by ex-Cub DJ’s 3 run blast. No battling back on his evening, and with the announcement of Hendricks on the 10 day DL, this weekend looks a little less bright.
And so we roll on. The 2017 season continues as the Cubs continue to hover around 500. Is that what we are? A 500 team? You know I don’t believe that, but we also know that it’s about wins and losses. The standings will be the ultimate judge of this 2017 season. That story is still being written. Go Cubs!

So far, the 2017 Cubs have been a roller coaster of ups and downs as they hover around .500. While this is far from last year and not what we expected this year, it is keeping the Cubs right near the top of the nl central. Will 90 wins or less get the Cubs the division crown? Could be. Just when you think the Cubs are turning a corner, they run into another brick wall. Things could be far worse, though. So let’s ride this roller coaster through the ups and downs and hope for a lot more ups this summer. GO CUBS GO!!!
