June 2, 2017: Coming to Chicago

posted in: Cubs | 1

The first weekend in June marked the first visit to Wrigley Field for the Cardinals.  This also means there will be all those fans that make the trek in to the baseball cathedral to see their team play.  Similar to how we made the trek down 55 for the series in St. Louis, fans will head up 55.  A lot different is the city they’ll be coming to.

Coming to Chicago has to be a treat for these other Midwesterners.  Sure, you could head to either coast and be wowed, but it’s much easier is to take that road trip into Chi-Town.  To say the least, you’ll be taking a step up; there is no other city like it.  Come and enjoy all the things you don’t have in your city.  Many folks end up moving here.  Whether it be from Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, and even St. Louis Missouri, many get that taste of the big city, and want it permanently. There’s probably that whole thing about being a bigger job market that helps too, but either way, many people choose to make Chicago home.

Of course it’s different this road trip for the Cards fans.  Just like they like to plaster all their World Series history all over their park, they will get to see the most recent one right here in Wrigley.  No longer a fun trip to beat up on the love able losers.  No, they’re now visiting the defending champs, the team that they’ll be looking up at in the standings for years to come, although that’s not quite the case this year…yet.

Friday marked the return of Dexter to the Friendly Confines. He certainly made a good home here. Love the tribute.  They showed Dex calling the Cubs fans the greatest ever.  Yep, sorry Cards fans, that is the truth.  Even guys on your team know that now. Maybe while Dex tries to add some personality to that clubhouse, he’ll educate them on what’s what in Chicago too.  Yeah, playing in this city for this team…that cannot be beat.

He did follow up that tribute and his ring presentation with a solo home run off Lackey, but it’s all good.  Cubs got a much needed W at the end of the day, and the start of the weekend was aced.

But if you were a visitor to our city on this weekend, you were already a winner.  Any time you get to set foot inside Wrigley, ditto.

Welcome. How you like the banner?  Go Cubs!

Pretty cool tribute to Dex as he got his ring. Must have inspired him as he led off the game with a home run. We know how many times he got things going for us in previous years. Good thing is that the Cubs ended up getting the W and stopping the 6 game slide. Welcome home Cubbies! Always good to beat the red turds. Let’s hope it continues all weekend long! GO CUBS GO!!!
