June 1, 2017: Starting the Month Off Right

It provides a fresh start every 30 or so days; the start of a new month.  Maybe this is a big month for you?  Maybe you need to get a lot of things done.  Maybe the 1st of the month represents the start of something… exercising more, eating better.  Like Bone Thugs and Harmony said, wake up wake up wake up.

I wasn’t interested in watching the NBA Finals that started on this day… I’m just not.  But, I did turn it on in the 4th quarter, and I saw the Warriors up by 22 points.  I smiled, left the game on, and got back to whatever else I was doing.  Still, a good start to the series that started at the first day of June.  I root against Lebron at all costs, regardless if I think KD joining the 70 win Warriors was totally ridiculous.  Have to believe ABC will stretch this out any way they can to at least 6 or 7 games, although I’m pretty sure the Warriors could sweep them.

I’m more worried about starting the month off right when it comes to my Cubbies.  Heading into June, there are no more excuses.  We’re almost a third of the way through the season.  It’s no longer “very early”… it’s still early, but we’re far enough along where we need to start seeing something.  We need to start seeing the Cubs play the way we know they can.

The Sox haven’t been so bad; they need to focus harder.  They had a marquee pitching matchup close to White Sox fans hearts earlier this week, when it was Sale vs Quintana.  Both of them got rocked, but the Red Sox got the win.  I know it was a Tuesday, but I thought it would have been more packed.  It was the Red Sox, it was nice out, and Sale was back on the bump… still not that much interest.  Yeah, the Sox fans aren’t exactly helping this rebuild process be any easier by not showing up.  And speaking of that rebuilding, when will they trade Quintana, Frazier, and Robertson?  And no, I don’t think they waited too long on Quintana.  Some team will want him; the Sox will be waiting.  It will happen, just like with the other two, prior to the trade deadline.  If it does not, I look at that as a failure in this tough process that the Sox are going through.

The Penguins are up 2-0 over the Predators.  I actually tuned in a bit the other day during Game 2.  Rinne looks like he may be mentally shot, and that will give the Preds no chance.  I still don’t think the series is over, but Pekka needs to get with it.  I don’t want to see the Penguins win again.  Not only would they challenge the Blackhawks for team of the decade, but they would have a back to back.

And then there’s the Bears.  Releasing Connor Shaw in favor of Mark Sanchez, but bringing him back when Sanchez gets hurt; is it really that serious?  We have Glennon and Trubisky.  Then there was the signing of Victor Cruz and the injury to Cam Meredith.  The Bears are right around the corner.  This may be the year of the first visit to Soldier Field with my son.

It’s going to be a busy month.  Summer feels like it has finally arrived, and we’re all ready.  Plenty to keep us busy and provide us joy away from the Chicago sports landscape, but it’s always nice when our teams chip in.  Enjoy the month!

Pretty sick when a 73 win team goes out to grab KD to help. Thing is, gsw lost the finals last year. Being up 2-0 and then 3-1 and losing is a tough pill to swallow. So KD was brought in to get them over that hump. Not watching this series either but hope that gsw pounds them. I’m thinking a 5 game series but could be a sweep…agreed.
Preds down 2-0 sucks. Do not want to see the pens go back to back. Good thing is that the preds are coming home. If rinne can get back on track, the preds may have a shot. They have to hold home serve now and get the series even.
Memorial Day has passed. School is out or almost done. Summer is here (not technically, though)! Time for the Cubs to get that blue train rolling down the tracks. GO CUBS GO!!!
