If I told you I wasn’t surprised that the Cubs got swept in LA, you’d probably call BS. I was surprised, but not shocked. The Dodgers had us lined up.
Of course it goes back to last October, when we ended their season. You think that provided some incentive? And if that wasn’t enough, it was those same Dodgers sitting there as spectators in Wrigley Field for all the championship celebration at the beginning of this season. The banner ceremony, the ring ceremony…yep, those Dodgers got a front row seat for it all. They even got to relive October as the Cubs played highlights before the games, during the rain delay. So, yeah, they were waiting for our visit to LA.
We were looking forward to it as well. Coming off a great homestand, back in first place, enjoying the first themed road trip of the year; this was starting to feel like last year. That ended quickly with a sound 3 game sweep. It really was dominating.
The Dodgers are no slouches. They will most likely be back in the playoffs, just like we expect the Cubs to be. They were home. They had all the motivation. They spanked us. Tip the cap, and move on. Try to put it behind you as soon as possible, but don’t forget it. The Dodgers won this round. Will there be another this year?
If so, it’ll have to be in October again. The Cubs leave LA licking their wounds, while the Dodgers leave feeling some redemption. Sure, it was nice to get to Kershaw after getting shutout 2 straight games, but that was little condolence. I’m glad that I didn’t make a trip back to LA for this one.

So enjoy it Dodgers, and good luck with the upstart Rockies and Diamondbacks, who make the NL West the toughest division in the NL, and we’re not even including the Giants. Meanwhile, the Cubs move on to San Diego, the weakest team in that division. The Cubs, thanks to their division strength, remain right in the mix just above 500. Like I said, 500 may win this division. Like I said, that would be pushing it.
When is it time to worry? Maybe if the Padres sweep us? Maybe if the Cubs are still hovering around 500 at the all star break? The sweeping in LA by the Dodgers does NOT worry me. We had it coming a bit.
Honestly, it would take a lot for me to worry. I’m not going to freak out like some of us, like Joe encouraged us to do. Not for me. Not yet. Not this year. Not right after we won the World Series. I think that allows for a freak out grace period. We haven’t hit that point yet. I’ll keep you posted.
Until then, it’s back to the grind. Down the 5 to San Diego to another stadium on the list to visit. Certainly the Cubs will fare better in this series. Right? Go Cubs!

Ouch…back to back shutouts followed up with getting to kershaw but not before they hit 2 3run shots off Lester. The west coast trip starts 0-3. The dodgers delivered some payback for sitting through all of the Cubs opening ceremonies in Wrigley. The bats were left in the 70s on the way to la. And the Cubs are brought back to a game above .500. So far, this year is like the Bulls season…hovering around .500. Seems like a hangover to me. Guys underperforming after last season’s heroics. They have to turn it around, right? Yes, they do, and they will. The Cubs will be fine as I remain optimistic about this season. Getting sWept in la and onto to sd. Back to back sWeeps? Is that possible? Say it aint so Joe!
GO CUBS GO!!!
