One of my favorite songs…they played a bit of it on this Wednesday night’s broadcast of the Cubs on WGN.  I always have a hard time spelling it, but I certainly do like to reminisce.

Seeing the Reds starter for this evening’s game certainly brought back some memories.  No, I wasn’t remembering his great Cubs career; I was thinking about the day he left, and more importantly, about who we got back for him.  The Cubs flipped him to Baltimore for a couple struggling pitchers.  Pedro Strop has been good, although I feel like he is the reliever I trust the least.  He gave up a double that plated two in the 7th tonight.  But of course, I’m talking about the other person in that deal, and no, it’s not Steve Clevenger.

On July 2, 2013, the Cubs acquired Jake Arrieta.  I feel like I wanted to thank Scott Feldman tonight for that.  He was good enough that year for us to make this happen.  We thanked him with 7 runs in 3 innings.  We could have been nicer.

After all, we ended up getting a Cy Young award winner back for him.  Yeah, yeah, I know he’s struggling this year a bit.  I don’t care if he wins another game for us.  The results of this trade were classic for the Cubs.  Now I do think Jake will win some more games for us; this may be the last year we see him do that in a Cubs uni.  Maybe that’s weighing on him.  Maybe he’d consider giving a home town discount and resign with the Cubs.  Maybe we should just pay the man his money.  Or maybe he’ll follow Fowler and Chapman, forever in our hearts, taking big deals elsewhere.

I’m just happy to see the Cubs winning again.  A big win on Tuesday against the ageless, probably should be put out to pasture, Bronson Arroyo, followed by another against our old buddy Scott.  He will forever be a footnote in Cubs history…another unsung contributor to the 2016 championship.

That’s two of those I mentioned in the past two days; maybe that should be a feature: the unsung contributors of the 2016 World Series winners.  Hendry and Feldman fall into that category; Jim for drafting Baez and Scott for pitching well enough to get us back a struggling pitcher named Arrieta.  There are so many more; I probably could do it.

In the meantime, the 2017 Cubs appear to be heating up.  Two in a row gets us back over 500 and headed in the right direction.  It’s great to reminisce about the best of times, and even better to still be living in them.  Go Cubs!

Jake has been aWesome since coming to the Cubs, and Strop has been a decent contributor out of the bullpen. Pretty damn good deal for the Cubbies! Jake is struggling this year, but just like with the Cubs, I am not worried. He may come back down to earth, like many of the Cubs, but that should still be good enough to win the division and make a run at repeating. The Cubs are dangling around the .500 mark so far this year. They will not stay there. Waiting for guys to get hot and put a streak or three together. GO CUBS GO!!!
