April 6, 2017: Still the Tops

posted in: Cubs | 1

All 4 teams in action again on Thursday.  I would have loved to catch all 4, ok, 3 of the games, but if I had a choice of only one game to watch, on this day, it would still be an easy decision.  The Cubs are still the tops.

I thought maybe after they finally won it, it would change.  Maybe my passion would lean towards the Bears, now that they are the team with the longest drought.  The Hawks are trying to add a 4th cup; that would be an easy choice.  The Bulls have been painful to watch, until the last few weeks.  And the Sox… not interested too much at this point; maybe I would be more supportive of them since the Cubs finally won?

There’s no denying my passion for all the teams, but one still burns stronger than any, and that is the Cubs.  As I talked about in my last blog, I’m still having a hard time getting back down to a somewhat normal level of passion.  After that postseason run, I was emotionally shot.  It took a while to recover; I’m not sure I would have ever recovered had it not turned out our way.  Now it’s time to celebrate.

It’s time to celebrate our Cubs.  I keep saying it, and truly believe it; we are entering the golden era for Cubs baseball.  Unless you were around at the turn of the 20th century, and yes, there were plenty of solid teams throughout the years, I don’t think anything will match up to what we have experienced, and will continue to experience over the next, fill in the blank, number of years.  Of course anything can happen, and nothing is guaranteed, but one thing is clear; it’s absolutely F-ing great to be a Cubs fan right now.

All those years are finally paying off.  All the suffering.  All the heart wrenching losses.  They have all been seemingly washed away by last year’s team.  But can you really change us?  I mean, the way Cubs fans are.  We will still hang on every pitch, yell at the TV, get pissed off if they lose; it’s inevitable that they will lose.  I would be happy with a 2 to 1 win to loss ratio…

We expect them to win every game; this has been the closest we have been to that.  Yeah, OK, pump the brakes, right?  After climbing the mountain, and winning it all, and squashing the 108 year “curse”, there will be nothing that will harder than that.  There will be more pressure packed situations, and yes, we won’t come out on top in every one of them, but nothing will be as hard to achieve as the first one… especially for the Cubs.

Now it’s gravy time…  this year will be a whole lot of gravy, all 162 games long.  Even if something bad were to happen, and that ratio is not as expected, it’s OK.  Somehow, some way, just like last year’s playoffs, the Cubs will get it done.  It’s amazing what one title could do for a fan’s psyche; I’m sure the team is right there too.

So when the Cubs went down to the Cardinals, just like in the first game of the season, I wasn’t worried.  I was pissed, but knew, that with this team, nothing is over until it’s over.  A 3 run home run tied it in game 1, and a 3 run home run gave us the lead on Thursday.  Two comeback examples in the first three games played.  This is going to be fun.

It’s like I just can’t get enough right now.. of the Cubs… still.  I want more… I want to win a ridiculous amount of games this year.  I want to repeat.  I want a dynasty.  One thing we have learned, is that anything is possible.  Anything just happened; anything is happening.  Go Cubs!

Cubbie blue has turned gold…hahaha. I like it. Yes, it feels amazing to be champs and to be so talented, young, deep, and built for sustained success for multiple years. Finally winning a title has changed us all. The weight, curse, heartache, loveable losers tag, all of it has been lifted. Winning last year has only made us, as fans, thirst for more. We have tasted the champagne and are feening for more. I think the same goes for the Cubs team. We cant get enough right now and that is fine. Keep it coming. Let the good times roll!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
