Is it just me, or is anybody else still on like 10 for these first couple games of the new Cubs season? I know we all remember the last meaningful games our Cubbies played, and how emotionally charged we were through each and every playoff game, getting more and more amped until we ran out of games. It was a life altering experience. And now, the next season begins, and more meaningful games, and I’m still amped up; it’s like my body & mind hasn’t adjusted yet. I can’t stay like this for an entire 162…
I was yelling when Contreras tied it up, then talking crap when the Cardinals were celebrating. I was fist pumping when Davis got his first save last night. Maybe it has a bit to do with my hate for the Cardinals… not sure. But I can’t stay at this level every, single, game. I need to save that for this year’s postseason run. There will be another postseason run…
Yeah, like I said before, I’m confident too. How can you not be? I love what Joe is doing with the top of the order: Schwarber, Bryant, and Rizzo. So every starting pitcher has to face those three to start a game. That’s great… for us. Not only can any of them go deep, they can all work a count. After 1 inning, even if the pitcher doesn’t allow a run, they could be behind the 8 ball with a high pitch count. That’s genius. And then for those pitchers that you have to get to early, like the ace pitchers who if you don’t hit them in the first inning or two, they’ll settle in and shut you down… yeah, we maximize that opportunity too.
It hasn’t shown clearly in these first 2 games; Martinez pitched a hell of a game in the opener. And, it always takes a little longer for the bats to get going at the start of the season. But they will, and if we stay with this order, we will see the dividends in a big way as we move through the 162; I really believe that to be true. It helps that the rest of your lineup is solid.

So you get through the big three, and then you take a breath, only to realize there are many more guys to deal with. There is no soft spot in this lineup, regardless of who Joe picks, and how he sets it up. How cool is that job? To fill out the lineup card for the Cubs daily. It’s a no lose proposition, yet, it looks like it will always be a hot topic. Why is this guy playing? Why is this guy not starting? Why is this guy batting in this place? To that, I will say relax… and enjoy. Like I said, it’s a no lose proposition. The biggest concern is trying to keep everybody happy with their playing time.
And if everybody still has the team first attitude… hopefully winning and/or personal achievements don’t change that… we’re golden. We have entered the golden era as Cub fans…
So take a breath, relax, and enjoy; I’m trying to take my own advice. Although the feelings & emotions from last year have spilled over to this year, that’s OK; it’s like the best hangover ever. Still, I can’t continue at this emotional pace. Let’s see how the Brewer series is this weekend… see if I get any better. Anybody else have any ideas? Go Cubs!

How damn good does it feel right now? The Cubs are defending champs, young, talented, and deep. All those years of suffering have led to the last 2 years, the present, and the future of this great Cubs organization. It feels aWesome. After so many years of losing and heartache, winning the World Series has changed everything. I heard somebody say that winning every player. I agree. I actually think it changes us as fans, too. We are not cocky. We are confident in this Cubs team. We have been there, conquered that…finally. We feel kind of invincible knowing how lucky we are to finally be on top. We love the view from up here and hope it doesnt change. Cubs hangover? Yep, it is the best kind…keep em coming!
GO CUBS GO!!!
