March 22, 2017: A Case of Motivation

posted in: Bulls | 1

How do you explain the Bulls dominance over the Raptors?  How do you explain the Bulls run on TNT at home on Thursday nights?  How do you explain why the Bulls are a sub 500 team?  Interesting questions with one answer:  a case of motivation.

Ok, it’s not ALL motivation.  Talent is important. Match ups are a part of it.  I could list many other factors, but the biggest part of it, for a regular season NBA game, is motivation. Where do you find yours?

From in here…me pointing at my chest. That’s where it should come from.  For the great ones, they drive themselves to greatness.  But even for them, it doesn’t hurt to have other sources; you need to find or have other sources of motivation.

Here’s my problem. I look at the Bulls roster (no, THAT’S not my problem…haha) and although it isn’t the most talented, we have enough talent to make the NBA playoffs this year in the Eastern Conference; we had enough talent last year too.  So why are we not solidly in them?

You have to start with the players themselves. Nobody can do it for them. They need to be the number one source of motivation for themselves.  Are they just not good enough?

I refuse to believe that. Yes, I know, we finally lost to the Raptors, but we beat them, one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference 11 straight times. I refuse to believe that is just a good match up, like Fredberg says it is.  We get up for these games, just like the whole TNT thing.  We play harder.  We believe we can win and we do.  I know this is not the magic formula to winning the NBA Finals, because if it was, we would have won with Thibs.  Yes, there is more required, but to make the playoffs?!?!?  There is no legitimate excuse why this Bulls team can’t make the playoffs…other than motivation.

And it certainly seems like the players need more.  Right or wrong, regardless of each players’ make up, more is needed. That is where the coach comes in. That is what is missing.

You know I’m all for firing Garpax, but one of the main reasons to do that should be for getting Fredberg.  The roster isn’t the best, and that’s on Garpax, but the coach isn’t making anything better. He’s worthless. He is not an NBA coach. He should go right along with them.

Of course there are those excuse makers out there for him…probably the same people who made them for Cutler; I don’t buy it. Fredberg is part of the problem, not part of the solution.  He’s just as accountable in this mess as GarPax. He needs to hold the door for them, then follow them out.

The Bulls aren’t the only team afflicted with this lack of motivation, as seen by the Pistons performance against us at the UC on Wednesday.  The Bulls are just the worst example of it.  Did you hear Fredberg’s response to how he feels to be in a tight race for the playoffs?  He said it feels miserable.

Ditto Fred. We feel the same about you and this entire Bulls organization.  Try to get some positive spin going. Try to motivate these guys the least bit…just the very smallest amount…the amount it would take to make the playoffs. Not making them again, is a direct reflection of you Fred.  And that’ll make you 2 for 2.

Back to back seasons of being the most underperforming, disappointing team in the NBA. Even Jimmy caught it, saying people didn’t even expect us to make the playoffs. Really?  Which people Jimmy?  Because we certainly thought this Bulls team couldn’t suck so bad that we’d miss the playoffs. Snap out it boys. You need to, because you certainly won’t get any help in that category. Yes, the Fredberg Bulls have a serious case of lack of motivation.

Motivation…the desire to get things done. Do the Bulls have it? Sometimes. Other times, they are just going through the motions. Guys look miserable at times, including fredberg. How are you the coach of an nba team saying it feels miserable to be in a tight playoff race? Really Fred?!? You are the leader of this team. Set the example, but honestly he has not been a good leader, let alone a good coach. He was hired and paid a lot of money to do a below average job in 2 years, including not making the playoffs, I assume, both years. He should lose his job. Garpax made this mess and they should, too. Will either happen? I doubt it, and that sucks. But at the end of the day, the self motivation needs to come from the players. Regardless of what is going on in the organization, playing the game and being in the NBA should be motivation enough. If it is not, then maybe guys should be doing something else. Less than 10 games remaining and the Bulls need to help themselves to make the playoffs. Anybody optimistic about that happening? Not me.
