February 28, 2017: Father Son

Man that sounds good.  Father Son pizza that is.  I’m fricking starving right now, and I could eat pizza for every meal every day.  I need to get some… right now.

It’s way better than that pizza they serve at the UC.  DiGiornos?  Really?  In the greatest pizza city in the world, you want to serve visitors and loyal Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks fans DiGiornos pizza?  It’s not delivery, it’s de-garbage!  At the UC on this Wednesday night to see the Bulls play, there would be no pizza.

It was me and my son.  When we go, I try not to buy any type of food or drink.  I’m not cheap, it’s just the fact that we’ve been to a lot of Bulls games.  I can’t buy food, drinks, or even souvenirs from the stores each time we go.  My wife makes sure we eat good before we go to the game, then I throw a granola bar in my pocket, and with a ton of water fountains throughout the UC, we’re good to go.

It’s always fun… going to the game with him.  It’s those father son moments that I love.  And on this day, especially this day, I think of my father.  Today is his birthday.  I think of our father son Chicago sports moments.

It’s funny… there’s not that many memories from going to games.  Believe it or not, the first one that comes to mind, is a Chicago Blitz game.  Yeah, maybe I remember it because we were almost at the game when my dad realized he forgot the tickets.  So, we drove back home, then back to the game.  Thankfully, we lived really close to Soldier Field.  Thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded.  Actually, that’s the second part I remember.  We were sitting almost by ourselves in a section on this cold night.  It was a blast.

The third is for the patient to return cheap levitra shop at pharmacy shop to his or her normal routine. Champix works on stimulating that part of your mind that side effects of levitra is accustomed to be stimulated by either sexual arousal or contact with your penile. There were no Bears, Bulls, or Blackhawks games together growing up.  Since then, we’ve been to a handful of Blackhawks games, and I think one Bulls game.  Still no Bears game…  We’ve been to a couple Cubs games together, but I remember the Sox games more than those.  I remember when he got some free tickets; we skipped our little league baseball game to go.  It was a big deal for us to go to a game.

That wasn’t the only Sox game we went together to.  We went to a handful.  The parts that I remember the most are, towards the end of each game, being able to go down by the field in old Comiskey, and sit in those seats.  They never cared back then.  Then after the game… walking to where we parked… again, no parking restrictions back then.  We would walk under the tunnel on 35th singing Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, hey-hey-hey, good bye after the Sox won.  Those were fun times.  It’s those memories that keep a special place, a small place, in my heart for the Sox.

Yeah, we didn’t go to a ton of games together.  That’s probably because we did everything else together.  OUR games were the most important.  All those years playing baseball at Harrison Park; he was there for all of them… as one of our coaches.  THOSE are the sports memories that stick out.  Like playing catch in our back yard… teaching us to pitch, as he got down in the catcher’s squat… until we got too old, and threw too fast for our backyard.  Yes, he was always there.

Still is.  Yeah, he’s still around.  We still have a lot more memories to add, just as I begin to build those with my son.  That’s what it’s all about after all, right?  Happy Birthday Dad.

Oh yeah, by the way, the Bulls got crushed.  I could have predicted that.. oh wait, I think I did.  And we even lost the Dunkin Donuts race… damn Biggie Bagel let us down.  Until the next one…

    Happy Birthday Dad!

Backyard sports, harrison park, boys & girls club, and farm sports, those are bigger memories than any actual professional games. You are always there and always have been. Thanks for everything!

Back to the Bulls, they suck! 4 wins in a row and then get smoked by the nugs at home giving up 125…ouch! Yep, that is the kind of season it is…a real head scratcher.
