January 23, 2017: Not Invincible

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 1

There was some tragic news that came across this past weekend.  Two major league baseball players died in separate car accidents in the Dominican Republic.  Yordano Ventura and Andy Marte, 25 and 33 years old I believe, died much too young.  Why does this stuff happen?

It was reported that they were both under the influence.  The first thing that comes to mind is why with all that money are the driving drunk?  Why wouldn’t they pay somebody to drive for them?  Yeah, just like we all did growing up.

Yes, we didn’t have the money like them, but do you think that would have made it better?  Imagine being 25 years old with millions of dollars.  We were bad enough without all that money.  It’s about the thought process during that time of our lives, well at least for me.

I thought I was invincible.  You hear the warnings, you know the dangers, but you think it can’t happen to you.  Maybe you think you drive better when you’re drunk.  Maybe you feel that you’re not drunk when you get behind the wheel.  Maybe it’s just an extension of being young and crazy.  Thankfully, I’m still here to talk about it. Unfortunately, there are many that are not.

There is pain in bladder, rectum, or when online prescriptions for cialis urinating caused by pelvic adhesion. This supplement is really stunning viagra in australia to help men perform successful and satisfying sexual activity. The Vigrx oil is a blend of use this link cheap viagra these. Usually, obesity viagra cheap online is considered when you have BMI more than 30. These are just the latest examples, and because they are athletes, there is more attention surrounding it.  It happens too often period.  Didn’t we just mourn the loss of Jose Fernandez a few months back?  Same type of thing, except on a boat partying.  It’s sad, sad stuff.

Too many lives lost too soon. We are not invincible. How do we get that message to sink in to all those 20 somethings, heck 30 somethings, heck, sometimes we never learn.  Now, at my age, I’d like to think I’m older and wiser.  And although I actually do think that is true, there are still those moments when I’m not.  Although fewer and much farther between, that number has to be zero.  Too many times making it through, too much to lose now.  No reason to take any of those type of risks any more.

So I’ll try to pass this message to my son at some point, the same way my father passed it to me. Yet, regardless of those talks, we all need to eventually find out for ourselves.  We will all do stupid shit.  We can only pray that we will live to tell about them.  We can only pray that the story doesn’t end like it did this past weekend for those two young guys.

There are no guarantees in life. Some say the only guarantee is death.  Sadly, it comes too early for too many.  Hopefully, from these sad tales, a lesson can be learned…lives can be saved.  That is all we can hope for.  Prayers to all the families involved with these tragedies.
